Hello everyone, I have the Kallax shelving unit from Ikea and would like to install the doors without making any holes or drillings in the furniture or the walls. Are there any practical solutions or recommendations for securely attaching Kallax doors without drilling? I prefer not to have any visible brackets or "DIY fixes," and the doors should be stable and suitable for everyday use when opening and closing. Thanks in advance for your tips and experiences!

Hello, the easiest option is adhesive magnetic holders. They hold the doors without drilling, are invisible, and easy to install. Alternatively, clamp or telescopic rails can be used, which are secured by clamping and do not require drilling.

Hi Nonalexei, I understand your concerns well. Attaching doors to the Kallax without drilling can be quite tricky since the system is basically designed for screws. However, you could try self-adhesive hook-and-loop fasteners or magnetic strips, which work well for lightweight doors. These often provide a decent hold, but keep in mind they are more suitable for light loads and their durability depends on the surface. Another option is special door magnets with adhesive backing or even clamp mechanisms, which usually work for cabinets with minimal stress. If you can specify the door material or type you want to use, I might be able to offer more specific advice.

So, I once attached doors to my Kallax using strong magnets fixed with double-sided tape. It holds surprisingly well and doesn’t look too messy. 🙂 It takes a bit of finesse, but it’s an elegant solution if you want to avoid drilling holes. If the doors are a bit heavier, you can also try small, invisible clamps for gripping. Doing it without drilling just makes the tinkering a bit more enjoyable! 😉

From a technical perspective, securely and permanently attaching doors to a Kallax shelving unit without drilling is generally challenging, as the intended fittings are designed for screw mounting. As an alternative, high-quality self-adhesive magnetic mounts are suitable for lightweight doors. The backing material of the magnets should bond well with the door material. Additionally, clamp or tension fittings available from furniture suppliers can be used, which hold the door in place by spring pressure without damaging the Kallax structure. In any case, I recommend checking the load capacity and stability beforehand. When using adhesive methods, surface preparation is also crucial for a long-lasting hold.

I would like to generally question the demand for securely fastening doors without drilling: What specific safety and durability requirements are being set?

are certainly a possible solution, but detailed product recommendations or tests would be necessary, as not every clamping mechanism is durable under long-term load. Also,

sound promising, but without scientific data on the adhesive bond strength on the Kallax surface, it is difficult to consider this a permanent solution. Therefore, I would recommend, especially if children or frequent use are involved, to rely on mechanical fastening or at least choose reliable systems. For a personal experiment, however, these adhesive solutions can be quite interesting.
