Hello everyone,

I want to create a small chill-out area and hang a hammock from the living room ceiling. The problem is that the ceiling is made of solid reinforced concrete. How can I install proper anchors in that, and would it perhaps be better to use heavy-duty anchors from the hardware store? I weigh just under 80 kilograms (175 pounds) but definitely don’t want to fall onto the floor.

I wouldn’t want to recommend anything just like that—ultimately, I wouldn’t want you to end up falling flat on your face. It’s best to contact one of the major anchor manufacturers (Fischer, Hilti, Tox), as they also offer telephone support.

Well, of course, you proceed at your own risk ;-) I didn’t know that Fischer and company offer telephone consultations, sounds good. I think they know more than a sales assistant at a hardware store.

But I have already been in contact with Fischer as well. However, attaching a hammock to the ceiling, especially with reinforced concrete, is practically impossible. The risk involved is too high.

I also love hammocks and find them very relaxing. However, I would not attempt to hang one from a solid concrete ceiling. My hammock has a wooden frame, and I feel secure using it that way.

I also have a hammock in my apartment. At first, I considered mounting it to the ceiling or wall, but I felt uncertain about that. Creating proper anchor points is already quite challenging. Plus, it has to withstand a strong pull, since people rarely get into a hammock gently and often just drop into it. That’s why I decided against mounting it to the wall or ceiling and instead got one with a pre-made frame.
