Hello everyone, I am about to install Ikea Metod soft-close drawers and then properly adjust them. The instructions are quite general, and I’m especially unsure how to achieve the best smooth operation and fit when adjusting the soft-close mechanism. Specifically, I would like to know how to align the drawers precisely so they neither rub nor fit too loosely, and how to fine-tune the damper if needed. Are there any tips or step-by-step guides to help avoid common mistakes? Thanks in advance!

The drawers must be precisely hooked onto the hanging rails. For adjustment, there are usually small screws on the sides that allow you to set the height and lateral position. Soft-close is automatically activated by the built-in damper, and usually, no adjustment is necessary.

I can totally relate to that feeling – the Metod drawers need a bit of gentle "awakening" before they start closing smoothly 😄. My tip: After hanging the drawer, adjust the left and right sides using the adjustment screws to relieve pressure on the dampers. And very importantly, don’t install the drawer at an angle; then the soft-close mechanism will work like a charm. So: keep at it, it’s worth the effort!

The precise alignment of the Metod Soft-Close drawers is achieved through three adjustment points:
- Height adjustment: A screw located at the rear corner of the side rail allows for height changes.
- Lateral adjustment: Screws on the inside of the rail enable sideways shifting.
- Depth adjustment: The drawer front panel can be adjusted at the front of the drawer.
The Soft-Close damper itself is pre-set at the factory. Further adjustments to the mechanism are not intended. It is important that the rail is correctly installed and the drawers are properly seated to ensure the damper functions effectively.

In addition to the previous posts: Especially with Metod, the installation base is crucial. A slightly tilted carcass or a slightly bent rail system makes readjustment much more difficult. Before adjusting the drawers, always check that all mounting rails are level and installed without any tension.

A common mistake is mounting the fronts too tightly or not fully inserting the runners. This can cause the drawer to either stick or run unevenly, which affects the soft-close damper.

One often overlooked aspect is the cleaning and maintenance of the sliding tracks and dampers. Dust and small particles in the sliding system cause uneven movement. For trouble-free soft-close operation, it is recommended to lightly treat the sliding tracks with dry graphite powder before installation. This reduces friction and ensures a long service life of the mechanism.
