Hello everyone,

I am currently planning to remodel my kitchen using IKEA Metod cabinets and specifically want to optimize the installation of the Metod doors to ensure they close as quietly and precisely as possible. I am aware that the standard installation often results in small misalignments or unwanted noises such as squeaking or banging, which is especially noticeable with soft-close hinges.

Therefore, I’m interested in whether anyone has detailed tips or proven methods to align the doors precisely and adjust them so that there are no disruptive noises when closing. I would like to know which steps and fine adjustments are recommended, which tools might be particularly useful, and if there are any tricks to properly set the hinges. Advice on common installation mistakes and avoidable causes of noise would also be very helpful.

Thank you in advance for your experiences, and I look forward to a constructive discussion!

The best method for silent closing is to properly adjust the damping on the hinge and tighten all screws. Align the door using a spirit level, then adjust the hinges. If squeaking persists, applying some silicone spray to the hinge pins usually helps.

That is basically correct, but in my experience, it’s worth taking a much more precise approach with Metod doors. I recommend the following steps:

- First, mount the doors loosely on a flat surface and align them very accurately using a good spirit level. Even small deviations can later cause increased noise.

- Always use the supplied hinges during installation and initially fix them with a rough basic adjustment.

- Then open and close the doors several times, gradually tightening the screws to find positions without tension.

- Damping adjustment: Metod hinges have adjustment options that allow you to fine-tune the closing mechanism to avoid closing that is too hard or too soft.

- If squeaking still occurs, cleaning the hinge pins can help, and occasionally applying a thin layer of lubricant such as silicone or PTFE spray.

- Make sure that no door rubs against drawers or other elements, as that also generates noise.

Have you already fully installed the doors, or are you still at the beginning? There are also metal guides on the backside that can cause clicking noises if misaligned and over-tightened.

This is indeed a very important point. I would add that during the initial alignment, you should also carefully measure the correct spacing to adjacent doors and elements to prevent the doors from unintentionally hitting each other and causing noise.

Additionally, it can be helpful to initially tighten the hinges only loosely, move the doors several times, and then fully tighten them. This reduces stress that can later result in noise.

Another tip: some users report that lightly filing the edges of the doors where functional handles or hinges make contact can sometimes eliminate slight squeaking. However, with Metod doors, this is rarely necessary and only makes sense if there are clearly visible misaligned edges.

If you want, I can also provide more detailed explanations on adjusting the 3D hinge adjustment used in Metod. This allows for very precise tuning of the doors in three directions (height, depth, sideways).

How is your current progress with the assembly?
