Hello everyone, some time ago I assembled an IKEA Platsa wardrobe and am generally very satisfied with its flexibility and appearance. However, I would like to enhance the furniture piece with integrated LED lighting to make it more modern and functional, especially for use in darker rooms or as accent lighting.

My specific questions are: Are there proven methods to equip the Platsa wardrobe with LED lighting without extensive drilling or compromising the original stability? What is the best way to connect LED lighting to the power supply if there is no direct connection available? And what should be considered when choosing LEDs and installing them to ensure the result is both visually appealing and safe?

I have already seen some DIY posts showing options with LED strips, but I am unsure which solutions are truly practical and durable. I would appreciate hearing about your experiences or good concepts!

Basically, PLATSA offers good flexibility for integrating LED lighting due to its modular design.

- For easy installation, I recommend flexible LED strips with a self-adhesive backing. These can usually be discreetly attached along the edges or behind shelves.
- To ensure power supply without visible cables, power supplies in power strips can be used, preferably installed behind or under the cabinet.
- For a firmer and secure attachment without drilling, screwless clips or stronger double-sided tape are helpful to neatly guide the cables.
- It is important to use low-voltage LED lighting (12V or 24V) to minimize hazards and ensure energy-efficient operation.

Dimmable options are also possible if you want to use a suitable LED controller with a remote control or app. In principle, integration is feasible but requires clear planning regarding cable routing and power supply.

Here is a brief guide on how to enhance the IKEA PLATSA with LED lighting:

1. Preparation: Check the size and internal dimensions of the module where you want to install the lighting. Make sure to note the location of power outlets or cable ducts nearby.

2. LED selection: Flexible LED strips with 12V work best. Choose sufficient brightness and warm white light if you want the furniture to feel cozy.

3. Attachment: Many use double-sided industrial tape or small mounting clips for securing. Drilling is not necessarily required, which helps avoid damaging the wooden panels.

4. Power supply: If direct connection is not possible, a power strip behind the cabinet is a good option. Alternatively, battery-powered LED systems are also suitable if you want to work completely cable-free.

5. Installation: Cable management inside the furniture is important to avoid visible wires. Use cable channels or Velcro straps.

6. Safety: Always pay attention to the maximum load and use certified products.

Gladly! I think LED lighting really adds that special wow factor to PLATSA, especially when used as shelf lighting. It almost feels like being in a miniature furniture store! 😄

What helped me was using a combination of warm white LEDs and RGB strips. That way, you can switch between cozy and colorful lighting depending on your mood. Powering the setup via a USB adapter is also convenient if there’s no outlet nearby. I find this kind of flexible solution perfect for beginners.

Looking forward to PAR63’s list of components, that would be great!

Yes, there are flexible LED strips that you can simply stick on. Power supply works well via power strips. No drilling is necessary, and the stability remains intact.
