Hello everyone,

I am currently planning to get an IKEA Hemnes piece of furniture, and a question came up: Are there different versions of the assembly instructions for the Hemnes series?

I have heard that IKEA sometimes provides different instruction versions for apparently identical models—depending on when the product was manufactured or if it is a re-release. Occasionally, small differences in the sequence or the required tools might occur.

Does anyone have experience with this? Are there officially different versions of the assembly instructions for Hemnes, or are they all the same? And if so, does this affect the assembly process or the required parts? This information would be really important for me to prepare better, especially regarding possible variations and specific details.

Thanks for your responses!

Yes, there are different versions of the instructions for Hemnes, especially between older and newer models. Usually, the differences are minimal and mainly related to the order of the steps.

Tip: It is best to always download the latest PDF from the IKEA website.

Regarding the question from Keochen36:

IKEA occasionally updates their instructions, for example when new parts are introduced or minor design changes have been made. The Hemnes series, which has been in production for a long time, shows such variations particularly in dressers or beds.

- The differences usually involve the order of the steps and sometimes additional guidance on tool use.
- The basic assembly process remains the same.
- There are no different parts; the instructions are only updated or supplemented.

So if you find an older instruction manual online, it is worth comparing, but IKEA typically includes the correct version with the product. Alternatively, you can check their website for updates.

That is correct and should be clearly supplemented: IKEA updates assembly manuals not only by product but often also by production period. Hemnes models that have been reissued can therefore have slightly different instructions.

There are also variations in presentation: some are image-based, while others additionally include text or pictograms for better clarity.

My recommendation: those who want the exact version should pay attention to the product number and the printing date in the manual.

Thank you for this precise addition. I am curious whether such adjustments to the instructions actually affect assembly time or complexity.

So: Has anyone had practical experience where a newer version of the instructions made the assembly noticeably easier or faster? Or are these mostly cosmetic changes that can almost be ignored?

Another point: Are there cases where older instructions are preferable, for example because they seem less complex or provide clearer illustrations?

For me, the difference was minimal. The newer instructions sometimes show different types of screws or a different order, but this does not significantly change the assembly process.

Older instructions are rarely better; updates are usually based on user feedback and improve clarity.
