Good morning everyone, I am about to assemble the Ikea Hemnes wardrobe and wondering if there are any tools or aids that could make the assembly process significantly easier. It is often mentioned that the small Allen wrenches and screwdrivers provided with such furniture are too weak or don’t fit optimally. Therefore, I am looking for advice on additional tools that can be used to install screws and wooden dowels more easily and securely, without risking damage to parts or unnecessarily prolonging the work. Perhaps there are also special techniques or tools for properly aligning the furniture components during assembly? I would really appreciate any specific experiences and recommendations.

One more tip: Extensions for Allen bits are especially helpful for screws located deep inside. Ergonomic handles make turning easier.

If you are a hobbyist, a magnetic screw box is worthwhile. This way, you won’t lose small parts during assembly.

That sounds very practical, especially for screws positioned in narrow corners. Thanks for the tip!

One quick question: is it advisable to use a lubricant such as paraffin on wooden dowels or threads to make screwing easier? Or could that cause issues with gluing and the overall hold?

Under no circumstances use oil or greasy lubricants on wooden dowels! The dowels need to swell to create a strong bond. A bit of dryness is better here; otherwise, the connection will not hold properly.

I completely agree. Also, it causes more problems than benefits if the dowels are damp. For screws in metal connections, however, a drop of oil can help if they get stuck.

Thank you for the detailed tips! This is very helpful for my preparation. In summary, I will use a cordless drill with torque control, have a rubber mallet and clamps ready, and avoid unsuitable lubricants. I look forward to hearing more experiences or insider tips.
