marsel60Good morning everyone,
I have a Billy bookshelf from Ikea in my apartment, and I’ve noticed that the doors, especially when moved frequently, tend to be quite noisy and sometimes a bit stiff. I’m very interested to know if anyone has tips or proven methods to make the door movements on the Billy as quiet and smooth as possible.
I’m thinking about possible adjustments to the hinges, lubricants, or other technical tricks. Maybe there are specific replacement parts for the doors that could improve opening and closing.
I would appreciate any helpful advice, especially if it can be done without major modifications. Thanks in advance!

I doubt that lubrication alone will completely solve the issue if the hinges themselves lack a certain level of manufacturing quality.
Could you describe exactly where the stiffness occurs, whether at the hinge or the door itself? That would help in finding a targeted solution.
For Billy doors, a high-quality silicone oil or Teflon spray is usually effective on the hinges. It is important to apply the lubricant sparingly to avoid dripping or attracting dust.
If the doors still stick, it might be due to slight warping of the door. In this case, tightening or slightly adjusting the hinge screws can sometimes help. The hinges on Billy doors are generally slightly adjustable.
