Hello everyone, I have a question that probably concerns many here: Are there sustainable methods to extend the lifespan of Billy shelves?

I’m not just talking about simple tips like handling them carefully, but concrete approaches that significantly increase the durability of these popular shelves – maybe special maintenance, improved protective coatings, repair options, or even targeted modifications.

I’m especially interested in how to keep the material strong without harming the environment. If anyone has long-term experience or practical advice, I would really appreciate your feedback!

Reinforce shelves with additional support strips.

Exactly. I recommend securing the support strips with wood glue and screws for extra strength. This provides significant stability without affecting the appearance.

Also, make sure not to use screws that are too long, as this can cause the wood to split on the back side.

A quick tip regarding repairs: If one of the side panels becomes loose or damaged, you can reinforce it with metal brackets. These are discreet and provide additional stability.

This way, you can often continue using the shelving unit for many years without having to dispose of it.
