ᐅ Are there suitable replacement fittings for Ikea Hemnes furniture?

AnatolHello everyone,
I have some furniture from the Ikea Hemnes series, including dressers and nightstands, which have been in use for some time. Unfortunately, some of the fittings are now worn out or even damaged – especially the hinges and handles show signs of wear. My question is whether there are suitable replacement fittings for Ikea Hemnes furniture that can be easily purchased without needing to replace the entire furniture piece.
I am particularly interested in whether there are compatible hinges, handles, and possibly other fittings that are exactly matched to the dimensions and drillings of the Hemnes series. Or if one would have to rely on generic replacement parts that would then require adjustments.
Does anyone have experience with whether Ikea itself offers these spare parts or if other manufacturers have compatible replacement fittings available?
I would greatly appreciate detailed information or tips on where to source these!

Hey Anatol,
great question! I have a few Hemnes furniture pieces at home myself and can tell you: yes, replacement fittings are available! Ikea actually sells some spare parts separately through their online store or directly in the store. Hinges, in particular, can often be ordered individually, and handles are usually available as separate components without any problem. 😊
The great thing is that Ikea offers replacement parts that perfectly match their series, which makes swapping them out really easy—no adjustments needed! If Ikea can’t help directly, it’s also worth checking at hardware stores or specialty furniture fitting suppliers. You can often find compatible hinges in standard sizes that usually fit.
So: don’t give up, you’ll find what you need. Keep at it! 💪

Hinges in particular can often be ordered individually, and handles are generally available as single components without any problem. That is basically correct, but I would like to add that the Hemnes series has some specific features regarding fittings, especially with concealed hinges. Not all spare parts are available from Ikea indefinitely, as their spare parts program is limited.
Anyone looking to order replacement hinges should definitely check the part numbers from the furniture descriptions or from the original parts. A close look at the number of drill holes, locking mechanisms, or damping systems, if present, often helps.
If Ikea cannot supply the parts, it is possible to obtain comparable fittings from other manufacturers’ ranges. However, it is important to measure the hole distances, hinge size, and material characteristics exactly, because Hemnes furniture is often made of solid wood and this significantly affects the choice of suitable screws and fastening methods.
Could you perhaps provide more detailed information about the faulty fittings? Are mainly hinges affected or also handle systems? Maybe also whether dampers are used?

Maybe also whether dampers are used?Thank you for your follow-up question, that makes sense. So far, mainly the hinges on two dressers are affected; the opening and closing function feels a bit loose, probably because a spring is no longer seated correctly or the metal part is slightly bent. I am not referring to the very simple visible hinges, but to the concealed ones located at the back inside the doors.
Handles are still fine except for a small scratch on a single piece of furniture and do not necessarily need replacing.
As far as I know, there are no dampers installed; the doors simply close with spring mechanics. I will measure the hinges more precisely, but if anyone knows the typical dimensions, that would already be helpful.

To my knowledge, dampers are not installed; the doors simply close by spring mechanism.Hey Anatol! That sounds like you have the typical “basic” Hemnes hinges, which Ikea often uses for solid wood furniture. They are usually quite sturdy, but after many years they do tend to wear out.
I have ordered replacements myself – Ikea sells the hinges individually along with the necessary mounting hardware. Alternatively, if you want more convenience, you could switch to soft-close hinges. However, these usually require slightly different drill holes.
Stick with the original if you don’t want to drill, otherwise you’ll need to drill and do some adjustments – which is not so simple with Hemnes due to the solid wood panels. Good luck! 🙂

My question is whether there are suitable replacement fittings for Ikea Hemnes furniture that can be easily purchased without having to replace entire furniture parts. The answer is yes, appropriately specified replacement fittings for Ikea Hemnes furniture are available. Ikea offers replacement parts for many of their series, including Hemnes, upon request. These include screws, handles, hinges, and other fittings.
Hinges are usually traditional spring-loaded clip hinges with standard dimensions. These hinges are often identical to branded fittings from companies like Blum or Hettich, so third-party replacements can be used if Ikea no longer supplies the parts.
It is important to carefully check the mounting points and hole measurements. Hemnes frequently uses 35 mm (1.4 inches) diameter drill holes on the doors, which makes compatible insertion or surface-mounted hinges straightforward.
Handles, on the other hand, are very uniquely designed, where the shape of the knob or bar handle is usually the key factor. When buying replacement handles, attention should be paid to the drill holes and center-to-center distances, as Hemnes sometimes features unusual measurements.
In conclusion: it is advisable to first request replacement parts from Ikea before experimenting with standard fittings from other manufacturers.
