Hello everyone,
I own a KALLAX shelf unit from IKEA and I’m wondering if there are sturdy feet available that can be optionally attached to increase stability and maybe give the shelf a more modern look.
It’s important to me that these feet not only look good but are also load-bearing, as the shelf is sometimes filled with heavier items.
Does anyone have experience with this or know of products that work well? I would also like to know if the original fasteners can be used or if special adapters are needed.
Thanks in advance for your advice!

For clarification and safety:
It is important to remember that when attaching feet to the KALLAX shelving unit, the shelf itself is not designed to withstand lateral forces if it is only supported by feet. Wall mounting remains a safety measure that should not be overlooked.
When choosing feet, I recommend selecting models with rubber pads to prevent slipping on smooth floor surfaces.
Adjustable feet are also beneficial if your floor is not perfectly level, as they allow you to securely align the shelving unit.
Conclusion: There are sturdy feet available, but they do not replace the improved stability provided by wall mounting.

IKEA itself mostly recommends no separate feet for KALLAX shelves, but securing them to the wall for stabilization. That’s true, especially with heavy use, wall mounting makes sense. However, the combination of sturdy feet and wall mounting is ideal to minimize the risk of tipping. A common mistake is to skip the legs entirely, placing the shelf directly on the floor, which can quickly become unstable on uneven surfaces.

Sometimes it’s like this: IKEA’s official methods are fixed, but for DIY enthusiasts there are plenty of possibilities.Exactly. Some fine-tuning is needed during assembly. If someone wants to use screws, they should first check the material thickness of the bottom shelf panel to avoid reducing the load capacity. For DIY projects, wood glue can also be used for covers and trims to create a nice finish.
I recommend measuring the shelf precisely before buying feet and, if necessary, checking the maximum load capacity per foot.
