Hello everyone,

I am currently looking more closely into the care of my furniture, especially the Ikea Brimnes range. My question is whether there are any special care products that work particularly well for the surfaces and materials of this series.

I am mainly interested in whether certain cleaning or maintenance products are recommended to protect the surface of the Brimnes furniture from scratches, discoloration, or wear, without affecting functionality.

Does anyone have experience or well-founded tips on which products really suit this furniture and what should be avoided?

I am adding a brief guide for practical use:

- For daily care: Remove dust with a dry, soft cloth.
- Cleaning instructions: Use a damp cloth with a mild dish soap solution, then wipe dry thoroughly.
- For stains: Remove immediately to prevent them from penetrating the material.
- Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasives, as they can permanently damage the surface.

The most important thing is regular and gentle cleaning; special products are therefore unnecessary.

Aren’t the Brimnes furniture pieces mainly coated with a melamine resin surface?

Yes, all publicly available information from Ikea as well as independent product research confirm that the Brimnes series features a melamine resin-coated surface. This coating is easy to maintain and resistant to moisture and scratches within certain limits but does not require special cleaning products.

Typical mistakes include using too much water on the surface and aggressive cleaners, which can leave dull spots.

That’s an important point. Always make sure that no water remains on the surface to prevent swelling or discoloration.

I understand that many people here are looking for clear advice on specific care products for Brimnes. However, I was initially worried that even small amounts of the wrong cleaning agents could damage the furniture, as I have had bad experiences with other furniture finishes in the past.

Thanks for the many helpful tips, especially the advice to avoid harsh cleaners, which really reassures me.

For anyone uncertain: gentle and regular care seems to be the most important thing, rather than special cleaning products. That takes a lot of pressure off. I will follow this approach now and hope my Brimnes furniture lasts a long time.
