kadra63Hello everyone,
I am currently planning to install an IKEA Platsa cabinet system at my home. I am wondering if there are any special beams or brackets suitable for wall mounting Platsa units, beyond the usual small wall profiles that IKEA provides. My goal is to securely and permanently attach the system to the wall, possibly also to better distribute heavier loads, especially for taller modules.
Has anyone had experience with such special beam or bracket solutions for Platsa? Are there official IKEA accessories for this, or do you recommend alternative mounting systems that work well with Platsa? Any advice on load capacity or recommended installation methods would also be appreciated.
Thanks in advance for your tips!

Your question about special beams or brackets for wall-mounting PLATSA is well-framed and important, as stability is especially crucial for larger and taller PLATSA systems.
Although IKEA provides small metal wall brackets intended for basic fastening, to my knowledge, they do not offer special beams or heavy-duty brackets that distribute the load over a larger area for PLATSA.
A common solution is to secure the system additionally to the wall using standard furniture brackets or mounting rails available at hardware stores.
I recommend the following approach:
- Check the wall type (concrete, drywall with supporting structure, etc.) to select suitable anchors and screws.
- Use longer metal brackets (e.g., L-profiles) on the wall to spread the load more evenly.
- Install these brackets to stabilize both the lower and upper cabinets and to prevent tipping.
Make sure that the screws in both the wall and the furniture are firmly secured. Using anchors that are too weak can cause the entire system to tip. Typically, 6–8 mm (1/4–5/16 inches) anchors are sufficient for concrete walls.
Summary:
- IKEA does not offer special beams for wall-mounting PLATSA.
- Additional brackets or rails from hardware stores can significantly improve stability.
- Pay close attention to secure wall fastenings!
I hope this helps you!

Hi kadra63,
I understand how important stability is for you when mounting your PLATSA units on the wall. Especially when stacking many elements or with frequent use, it's natural to worry about everything holding securely.
I also had serious concerns at first and wondered if IKEA might have better hardware. Ultimately, I chose to use slim stainless steel U-profiles that I purchased myself, which I screwed behind the units and then fixed to the wall. It doesn’t look quite as “clean” as IKEA’s accessories, but it gives me peace of mind.
I was also worried about load capacity – even if IKEA offers brackets, you never really know how well they will hold in your specific case. Maybe my experience can help you a bit: sometimes custom solutions work better, especially when you know your materials and wall well.
If you like, I can share more about how I did it!

- IKEA does not offer specific beams for PLATSA wall mounting. This matches my research. IKEA primarily provides flat metal brackets intended for basic attachment, but not sturdy, load-bearing beams or rails.
For wall mounting, it is recommended to combine these with
- heavy-duty brackets,
- flat steel profiles,
- or mounting rails (e.g., Unistrut) sourced from specialist suppliers.
In any case, it is important to check that the anchors and screws are suitable for the wall type. For drywall areas, for example, metal studs or appropriate specialty anchors should be used.
These solutions significantly improve the longitudinal and tilt stability of the PLATSA system and minimize the risk of accidents.
Hello,
I understand how frustrating uncertainty can be with installations like this. I’ve struggled myself with IKEA cabinets before and ended up looking for reinforcing screws and brackets at the hardware store.
Your idea of using special beams sounds interesting – maybe there are suppliers who can make custom brackets, since PLATSA is not a traditional shelving system.
You might want to ask a local metalworker, who could cut and drill profiles to your specifications. Personally, I’ve always played it safe and didn’t rely 100% on IKEA’s brackets.
Keep us updated and feel free to share your decision – I’m sure others here are facing the same question!
