ᐅ Are replacement parts available for older Malm models?

Hello everyone,

I am looking for replacement parts for older IKEA Malm furniture models, specifically for a Malm bed frame from the early 2000s. Are replacement parts still available for such older series? If so, where could one obtain them? I ask because my bed frame has an issue with the metal connectors, and I would like to replace only the damaged part instead of buying a whole new piece of furniture.

Maybe someone has experience with whether IKEA keeps replacement parts for these older models in stock or if third-party suppliers are a good alternative?

Thank you in advance!

Additional Information:

IKEA itself offers replacement screws for many of their furniture items, but as mentioned earlier, availability can be limited for older models. Connector brackets as spare parts are less commonly available, as these are often custom-made in furniture production to reduce costs.

The best approach is:
- Precisely measure the original parts (length, material thickness, hole spacing)
- Search for suitable standard metal fittings in hardware stores or online shops

If the original screws are damaged, metric screws with matching nuts and washers can often be used to create a comparable connection. Sometimes minor adjustments are necessary, such as using different lengths.

Conclusion: Replacement parts like screws are usually easy to substitute, while brackets are somewhat more difficult but finding alternatives is not impossible.

In my opinion, this is the key point.

Once you have the measurements, you can request replacements or find suitable spare parts from many industrial suppliers.

For exact replacement parts for older IKEA models, availability is very limited, but there are modular connector systems that may be compatible—provided the dimensions match.

You should also consider that some metal brackets are designed for different load profiles. If the bed will carry heavier loads, it is advisable to choose a more robust bracket that better accommodates the forces.

Replacing only the screws is often the most practical solution.

Hello again,

another note based on experience: If you can’t get the complete part, it is common to find such brackets and screws second-hand through classified ads. Many people exchange or sell individual components when dismantling furniture, especially for popular series like Malm.

Replacement screws are usually not a problem with some adjustments, but brackets are rarer, as others have already mentioned.

If I were you, I would recommend the following approach:
1. Contact the IKEA service with the exact model details
2. If not available, look for used spare parts on platforms
3. Take measurements and search for matching screws or brackets at a hardware store or from specialized suppliers

With this method, you can usually repair the bed cost-effectively without a full replacement.
