Hello everyone, I have a question that has been on my mind for a while: Are there practical solutions to equip IKEA Besta furniture with casters to make them more mobile and flexible within a room? I understand that the original Besta units neither come with casters nor fixed caster mounts as standard. Replacing the feet with casters often leads to the problem that the furniture no longer stands stably or the weight distribution becomes unfavorable. Therefore, I am looking for proven approaches—perhaps specific caster models, modifications, or custom adapters—that solve this issue while largely maintaining the visual style of Besta. Who among you has experience with such modifications or can offer advice on what load capacities need to be considered? Thanks in advance for your ideas!

The easiest option is furniture casters with brakes, each supporting a load of at least 30 kg (66 lbs). You can unscrew the old feet and attach the casters using appropriate screws. A mounting bracket is important to ensure stability.

I have been looking for a good solution for a long time because I want to rearrange my Besta cabinets frequently. It is really frustrating when the modules are not easy to move. After some attempts, I decided to use casters with locks, which I installed under the plinth. This way, the furniture remains stable yet flexible. It takes a bit of fiddling, but I think it is worth it.

Some caster mounts fit directly into the holes of the Besta feet. This makes it easy to replace the feet without much modification. However, be sure to check the maximum load capacity of the casters, or you might encounter stability issues later on.

I recently bought casters with rubber wheels that can be screwed onto the bottom of the Besta furniture. The advantage is that the wheels don’t scratch the floor and still provide relatively stable support. The installation is a bit tricky, though, since the Besta bases are not designed for casters. For anyone who likes flexibility, I highly recommend this option; it makes the cabinets roll almost like they’re floating across the living room 😉.

That’s exactly what I did as well. Additionally, I recommend choosing casters with a locking brake to prevent the furniture from rolling away unintentionally. Make sure the screws are long enough, otherwise the casters won’t hold securely.
