Hello everyone, some time ago I bought an Ikea Hemnes dresser, and unfortunately several drawers are having significant problems. The drawers often stick or don’t close properly, which makes using them quite annoying. I have already checked for loose screws or bent rails but didn’t find anything unusual. I’m interested to know if anyone here has solutions or tips on how to effectively fix these common issues with Hemnes drawers. Are there any workshop tricks, adjustable components, or recommended replacement parts? I would appreciate any help, especially long-term solutions that permanently improve functionality!
A tip: Also check whether the drawers themselves are built perfectly straight. Sometimes the side panels are not glued at a perfect right angle, which can also cause sticking. If that is the case, slight adjustments with screws on the front as described often help, or even a thin spacer at one corner.
Thank you to everyone who contributed so helpfully here! Adjusting the front panels and realigning the slides made the biggest difference for me. The stoppers also seem to have an impact—I was able to order suitable replacement parts online.
For anyone experiencing similar issues with Ikea Hemnes drawers:
- First, check the alignment of the drawer slides using a spirit level
- Clean the slides thoroughly and use a silicone-based lubricant
- Replace the plastic stoppers at the rear end if they are worn out
- Carefully adjust the drawer fronts to ensure smooth locking
- Make sure the drawers themselves are installed straight
I feel that with a bit of care and patience, most common problems can be resolved. It would be great if Ikea considered some easier adjustable solutions for future models.

Sometimes it’s the small things that can be annoying in everyday use, but with a bit of research and patience, it works out! Maybe you’ll add some creative decoration so the drawers not only work well but also look great 😄
A quick update after one week: The drawers are still working perfectly. Thanks to the tips, I was able to ensure smooth opening and closing on a lasting basis.
So, if anyone is having issues with the Hemnes drawers, I can only recommend the steps mentioned above. Thanks again for the great support here in the forum!
