Hello everyone, I have an Ikea Besta sideboard with the standard doors and wanted to ask if there are simple, cost-effective, and above all quick ways to make these doors childproof? Specifically, I want to prevent small children from easily opening the doors, as there are electronic devices and cables behind them that should not be reached. I would like to avoid complicated installations or special tools – preferably something that can be easily attached and, if needed, quickly removed. Who has experience or knows tricks on how to achieve this safely?

Magnetic child safety locks work well and are easy to install. They are attached to the inside of doors, and usually come with a small magnetic key to open the door. This is not a traditional key, so it is less likely to be lost.

I can confirm this. I have such magnets on a Besta sideboard, and they hold really well. Children cannot reach them, and if you really want to open the doors, the magnetic wand is enough. No drilling, no permanent alterations.

Simple magnetic catches are, in my experience, the best compromise solution. You just need to make sure to install them in a place where children cannot reach them and where the door won’t be damaged when closing. Additional tips:
- Thoroughly clean the adhesive surfaces before attaching to ensure longer-lasting hold.
- At first, make sure children do not watch how you open it, otherwise they may try to imitate it later.
