Hello everyone, I am currently looking into whether there are spare parts available for frequently broken components of the Ikea Hemnes range—specifically for models like dressers, beds, or cabinets. The main focus is on which individual parts (e.g., drawer slides, handles, back panels, or screws) typically need to be replaced due to wear and tear, and whether these spare parts are offered by Ikea itself or alternative suppliers. I am interested both in the official Ikea service and practical solutions for dealing with common failures when original parts are no longer available. Are there any specific experiences or recommendations regarding which spare parts are most commonly involved in repairs? Thank you in advance!
Let's be honest: As popular as the Hemnes series is, Ikea doesn’t produce anything that will last forever – just because spare parts are sometimes available doesn’t mean they are truly durable or a perfect fit. Usually, when it comes to rails or slats, you’ll get far better advice by using standard parts from a hardware store, saving yourself the trouble of hunting down the "ultimate" Ikea replacement, which is often more expensive and harder to source.
In my opinion, it’s better to take a more pragmatic approach to spare parts and do more yourself instead of relying solely on Ikea. What do you think?

Ikea does offer spare parts, but for wear items, the local hardware store or DIY center is often a better option. Good drawer slides are reasonably priced and often more durable than the originals.
Additionally, I would like to share some technical details that might help with the repair or replacement of HEMNES components:
- Drawer slides for HEMNES are usually 45 cm to 50 cm long (18 to 20 inches), with an installation width of about 13 mm (0.5 inches) (metal slides with ball bearings). The model numbers are IKEA-internal and not very transparent. Replacement slides from Blum or Häfele often fit.
- Cross slats on the bed are mostly glued and nailed. The brackets are often wooden inserts with metal clips or simple threaded inserts. Replacement parts from IKEA are rarely available, but you can buy the screws separately.
- If the edges of the drawers break, sometimes gluing wooden strips with fast-drying glue or construction adhesive can help.
It is highly advisable to precisely measure the damaged parts and, if possible, take photos before ordering, so you can find suitable parts at your local hardware store.
Finally: If the furniture is older than 10 years, IKEA’s replacement service is often discontinued, so you will need to handle repairs yourself or resort to universal third-party suppliers.

The HEMNES pieces I use are all over 8 years old, some definitely close to ten. So I have to expect that the official Ikea replacement parts service won’t be available indefinitely. I’m interested to hear if anyone here has experience with suitable universal or third-party replacement parts that work well with the HEMNES dimensions and materials.
