Hello everyone, I have a specific question regarding the IKEA Platsa hinges: Are replacement parts available for these hinges, such as individual components like spring mechanisms or mounting parts? I have already done some research but found conflicting information about whether IKEA offers such spare parts at all, or if the entire hinge must be replaced. If replacement parts do exist, it would be helpful to know how and where to best obtain them, whether only directly from IKEA or also through specialized retailers. I am also interested to know if there are compatible alternative parts from third-party suppliers that work well or are recommended. Does anyone have experience or knowledge about this? Thanks in advance!

Interesting question! Just to clarify the topic: You are specifically asking about individual replacement parts for IKEA PLATSA hinges, not complete replacement hinges, correct? Officially, IKEA only offers complete hinges, not individual components like springs or clips. This is because the PLATSA series is relatively new, and IKEA has always preferred simple replacement through complete components, as it keeps the warranty and inventory systems more straightforward. However, there are reports in forums that resourceful DIYers sometimes adapt parts from older IKEA hinges or even compatible spare parts from third-party suppliers. In such cases, you need to carefully check whether the fit and load capacity are really suitable. So the question remains: How urgently do you need just one part, and how willing are you to experiment with the repair?

Oh, that’s really interesting, thanks for the detailed question! I once had a broken PLATSA hinge myself and was really relieved that I could easily get a complete replacement part through IKEA’s customer service. I didn’t find individual spare parts, but honestly: given the price of the hinges, a full replacement isn’t a big deal. I think it’s better not to waste too much time looking for single parts—just replace the whole thing and move on! 🙂 Still, it’s great that you’re gathering information beforehand. 👍

Hello Sin56, I completely understand your concern, as when hinges are damaged, many people prefer to replace just the broken part instead of the entire hinge. Regarding IKEA PLATSA hinges: as far as I know, IKEA does not sell individual spare parts for these hinges. This is due to their design, which is based on a modular complete system. If a joint or spring is damaged, the entire hinge can be ordered as a replacement part through IKEA customer service. However, you can often look for hinge components yourself at hardware stores or online, which might be compatible—especially ‘clip-on’ or 35mm (1.4 inch) cup hinges can sometimes be interchangeable. But you really need to pay close attention to the dimensions and load capacity. If you like, I can gladly give you some tips on what to watch for regarding measurements and hinge types.

I would like to build on that: It is worth analyzing the defect carefully. The PLATSA hinges are standard clip-on cup hinges with an integrated spring. The spring and plastic clip are assembled together as a unit and cannot be replaced individually. This means that repairing a broken plastic part or modifying the spring is very complex and done at your own risk. Conversely, spare parts for individual components are practically non-existent.

However, if you have several PLATSA cabinets and want to be prepared, you can keep complete hinges from the same series as spares. It is also worthwhile to contact IKEA customer service directly, as they sometimes still have stock available.

One more tip: In some cases, hinges from the METOD kitchen system also work with PLATSA – but you should check the drilling distances before purchasing (usually a 37mm offset) and consider the door weight, as PLATSA hinges generally handle less load.

Does this roughly match your situation?

From an official standpoint, IKEA generally only offers complete hinges, not individual parts like springs or clips.

A very important piece of information. To explain it in more technical terms: the IKEA PLATSA hinge uses a metal-reinforced plastic base that encloses the mechanism including the spring. The spring is a special steel coil spring, either molded directly into the plastic part or installed so tightly that replacing just the spring is practically impossible. The plastic components themselves are part of a mechanically complex assembly optimized for fit and functional tolerances. Finding a generic replacement part would be nearly impossible.

If these components are damaged, replacing the entire hinge is the most economical solution, since even swapping out a small plastic clip is usually time-consuming, prone to errors, and offers no guarantee of long-term durability. In practice, this means repair attempts using tape or similar methods are at best temporary fixes.
