Hello everyone, I have recently started working on repairing some of my Ikea Hemnes furniture, which has been in use for several years, without having to request or buy a completely new instruction manual each time. Therefore, my question is: Are there detailed repair guides for Ikea Hemnes furniture available online that specifically address common issues or typical damage? I am not referring to simple assembly instructions provided by Ikea, but actual guides focused on repairs such as replacing screws, fixing joints, or refurbishing surfaces. Has anyone had experience with this or knows reliable sources offering such detailed repair manuals for Hemnes furniture? Many thanks in advance!

To be honest: who wants to dig through thick repair manuals from Ikea in the basement? 🙂 I take a practical approach – usually, a bit of patience, a screwdriver, and maybe some spare parts for Hemnes are enough to fix most issues.

- For swollen wooden dowels, it’s often best to remove them and replace with new ones.
- Drawer runners? Just get the original spare parts and swap them out; that lasts the longest.

Instructions? Sure, Ikea provides basic assembly guides online, and they’re surprisingly well explained. For everything else, you can manage on your own. And if a screw goes missing, it’s no big deal – a hardware store can help.

I always say: Hemnes is sturdy, and with a little care, it runs like new again.

In short: There are no official repair manuals from Ikea for Hemnes. However, the assembly instructions are available online. You can order replacement parts from Ikea. For drawer runners, general drawer slides from a hardware store often work if replacements are not available.

That’s true, but I find it problematic to derive "repair instructions" from them. Assembly instructions explain the construction, not the repair process. Especially with swollen dowels or worn runners, there are no guidelines on tools, material selection, or replacement parts.

According to my research, this statement is correct.

My critique:

- There is no formally available repair support from Ikea beyond part replacements.
- Community solutions are individual and often incomplete.

I would suggest requesting more structured instructions or at least official information to help extend the furniture’s lifespan.

In the end, what really helped me was searching specifically for the furniture model and the defect when facing similar issues

I completely agree! I once repaired my Hemnes nightstand after one of the drawer slides broke. After some research, I found a video tutorial that wasn’t entirely professional but matched about 90% of the situation. I tried it myself afterward, and everything went perfectly!

So there’s no need to get discouraged; there are really dedicated DIY enthusiasts who create step-by-step videos. Maybe try looking through those channels—I find it relaxing and even a kind of adventure to tackle small repairs on your own.

Stay brave and keep at it! 😊
