Princess260410 Aug 2010 10:10Hello everyone,
I’ve been thinking about a question 😕, and maybe you can help...
When I submit a plan to the bank regarding the costs for building a house, I assume that enough money must also be planned for the interior furnishings. Kitchen, living room furniture, and so on. Our current stuff isn’t in good condition, so we will definitely need new items 🙂 Now, I wonder how much should be included for this 😕 I understand that some people are fine with very cheap furniture, while others insist on designer pieces. But if you choose a middle ground, how much should you budget for furnishing an entire house? Do I have to visit various furniture stores and make a list??? 😕 I really have no idea. How do you handle this? Does anyone have experience?
Thank you so much, everyone!!!!
Best regards,
Nicole

Since we’re facing the same problem, here are our numbers:
Living room 5000-6000 without hi-fi
Kitchen including 8-seat dining area 15000
Bedroom 3000
These are values in the mid-price range that we have selected so far. We have not decided on anything higher yet.

Princess260411 Aug 2010 07:34Ahem, clears throat, clears throat... 😱 So there must already be solid hardwood colonial-style furniture in the living room, right? 🙂 I wouldn’t have estimated that high. I always thought a good kitchen easily costs $10,000, but there’s a kitchen currently on display at one of the major furniture stores marked down to $6,000, and I’d take it just as it is... The only problem is that when researching prices for the furnishings, you see great deals that aren’t actually available when the time comes.
We also need a dining area for eight – too many kids 😀 – but you can get a solid wood table for around €300-500 (about $320-$530). Then eight chairs, which, if you choose better-quality ones, cost about €100 (around $105) each. By my calculation, that would make the total for the kitchen plus dining table and chairs about €7,300 (around $7,700), assuming those deals actually exist...
I’m not sure if it’s better to budget a bit more and be pleasantly surprised if it’s less... 😕
So far, I’ve always had a figure of around €50,000 (about $52,500) in mind for kitchen, bathroom, etc. But now I’m not sure if that might be way too much... Maybe the banker will call it unrealistic...
