Hello everyone,

I am currently planning to optimize the lighting for my new IKEA Platsa shelves and am looking for recommendations for suitable LED lighting systems. It is important to me that the LEDs can be integrated as discreetly as possible, since a harmonious appearance in the room is a priority.

Are there specific LED lighting options that work particularly well with the Platsa series? What type of LEDs (e.g., color temperature, luminous intensity) and mounting systems are recommended? Are there any products that are easy to install regarding power supply and wiring?

Experiences related to heat generation and durability would also be interesting. Ideally, you could also provide tips regarding dimmable versions or controllable lighting systems.

Thank you in advance for your support!

Hello,

from my experience, flexible LED strips with a warm white color temperature (around 2700-3000 Kelvin) work particularly well for IKEA PLATSA shelves. These strips are slim and can be easily glued to the back of the shelves, which fits nicely with the modular elements of the PLATSA series.

Points to consider:
- Low heat generation, as is typical for LED strips, to avoid damaging the furniture material.
- Power supplies should be placed in a separate compartment to keep them out of sight.

It is best to size and cut the LED strips exactly to the shelf width for even lighting.

Dimmable versions work well with conventional controllers; make sure to use compatible power supplies.

I recommend using 12V high-density LED strips. They are easy to install and provide good light distribution. Just hide the power supply, and you’re done.

The PLATSA series is primarily designed for 12V LED strips, as they allow for easy installation and produce little heat. For mounting, I recommend using self-adhesive, flexible LED strips (at least IP20, since they are for indoor use). The color temperature should be chosen based on the application, ranging from 2700K (warm white) to 4000K (neutral white).

For power supply, a high-quality, dimmable driver is recommended. If control features are desired, ensure compatibility with the driver (e.g., PWM dimming).

Also, pay attention to adequate cooling to ensure a long lifespan. Placing them directly behind shelves should not be problematic, provided the LED strips are not too high-powered.

In summary:
- 12V flexible LED strips (not too powerful)
- warm white to neutral white
- dimmable drivers with compatible controls
- simple mounting with adhesive tape on the back of the shelves
- cables routed discreetly

Exactly, another important point: cheap power supplies can cause flickering or failures. It’s better to invest a bit more.

In addition, I have had good experiences with LED lighting systems that are connected via plug connectors. This way, with PLATSA, you can equip the individual modules flexibly and modify them later without having to rewire everything.

That makes a lot of sense, since the technology is otherwise too visible, especially on open shelves.

Thanks for the advice so far.

One more question: Do you have any recommendations on the best way to connect the LEDs when multiple PLATSA units are placed side by side and stacked? Is it better to use a central power supply with longer cables, or several smaller power supplies?

I’m aiming for as tidy a wiring setup as possible that isn’t complicated to adjust with every modification. The idea of using connectors sounds promising—do you know of any specific products or systems that work well with PLATSA?
