Wolfgang554 Aug 2022 11:07Hello everyone,
I am currently looking more closely into the IKEA Platsa system and have seen various shelving configurations online. My specific question is: Does IKEA offer pre-assembled Platsa shelves ready to install, meaning shelves that can be purchased as complete modules or sets without having to configure every single part individually?
What matters to me is whether the system is available in fully assembled or at least pre-modular versions that can be assembled at home directly, without having to deal with detailed custom planning beforehand.
In other words, I want to know if IKEA provides shelves that are basically already configured as complete units, or if the system is exclusively modular, requiring you to plan and select individual components yourself.
Thank you in advance for your expertise!

Hello Wolfgang55,
to answer your question about the IKEA PLATSA system, here is a brief explanation regarding the availability of the shelves:
- IKEA primarily offers the PLATSA system as a modular construction kit. This means you purchase individual base elements (such as carcasses, doors, drawers, shelves) and can customize them according to your needs.
- While there are ready-made combinations and sets in some IKEA catalogs or showrooms, which serve as inspiration or examples, these are usually just samples and not regularly offered preconfigured shelves available for direct purchase.
- Due to the system’s flexibility, the concept is designed for the customer to choose what they need. Preconfigured, fully assembled units, as found in other shelving systems, are not the standard offering with PLATSA.
- If you are looking for quick availability, IKEA does offer assembly services that can put the pieces together for you, but you still have to select and buy the individual parts yourself.
In summary:
PLATSA shelves are almost exclusively designed as a modular system and are not sold as fully preassembled shelves ready for immediate installation. I hope this clarifies things.
If you need tips for planning or common mistakes to avoid when putting it together, I’m happy to help!

At first, the variety almost overwhelmed me, but with a bit of patience you can find really cool combinations that fit perfectly.
There isn’t a true “ready-to-go” option, but it’s not hard to assemble your own. And if you want, IKEA also offers sample setups as inspiration to replicate.
So: get started on your planning – and later you can proudly say your shelf is unique! 😃
Hello everyone,
I have experience assembling the PLATSA system myself and can confirm that no shelves are sold as fully pre-assembled sets. This is due to the design concept—PLATSA focuses on maximum customization.
What you can use, however, are the configurators on the IKEA website. There, you create your desired combination based on room dimensions and preferred features, which is then generated as a shopping list. This is very helpful to avoid purchasing errors.
Important when assembling:
- Ask the store or check online for the assembly instructions.
- Check the delivery for completeness, as reordering missing parts can take some time.
This way, you’ll be well prepared. If you don’t want to deal with individual components, you can also visit the showroom to look at sample shelves and get an idea.
I hope this answers the question in a bit more detail.

Are there any pre-assembled PLATSA shelves from IKEA that can be built directly, meaning shelves you can buy as complete modules or sets without having to configure every single part separately? That’s a really interesting question! Essentially, PLATSA is like a LEGO set for your home 🧱.
Because IKEA keeps the system very flexible, you need to choose the individual components yourself. But this is not only practical, it’s also creative – can you imagine how cool that is? 🙃
And if you’re not ready to decide on your own yet, IKEA often has pre-packed or assembled display models in the store that you can use as inspiration. However, for takeaway, it’s always individual parts, not fully assembled shelves.
So, to sum up: There are no regular, ready-to-assemble sets available, but plenty of inspiration and tools to help you easily put together your own shelving unit.
