Hello everyone,
I’m looking for practical tips on how to better organize the drawers in my IKEA Besta system. Specifically, I want to find ways to divide the usually quite shallow drawers to make the best use of the available space without everything getting messy.
Are there any proven systems, organizers, or clever DIY ideas that have worked well for you?
For example, I’ve been considering if there are special inserts, such as shelves or dividers, that fit inside the drawers and remain flexible.
Looking forward to your experiences!

- Use transparent plastic boxes in various sizes as basic units.
- For elongated items like cables, hooks or small cable ties that you can attach to the boxes are helpful.
- Separate the boxes with removable dividers so you can stay flexible whenever the contents change.
- When choosing the inserts, make sure they fit the drawer exactly to avoid wasting any space. A ruler for precise measuring is essential here.
- Finally: declutter regularly! Otherwise, your organization system will change faster than you can notice.
If you have any questions, I’m happy to help with specific measuring or material tips.

Just cut custom inserts for the flat BESTA drawers out of sturdy cardboard, and cover them with foam rubber or fabric. It’s easy, affordable, and you can customize the compartments to your needs.
You can also add small magnetic strips to secure metal objects or screws. It makes searching much easier and looks pretty cool too. 😉

Also, you can attach small magnetic strips to hold metal objects or screws in place.+1 That’s practical and makes efficient use of space in shallow drawers.
Just make sure the magnetic strips aren’t too strong to avoid damaging the small parts.
