Robin63Hello everyone,
I’m currently planning to customize my Ikea PAX wardrobes and am looking for truly practical and everyday-friendly Ikea hacks that specifically help to use the storage space more efficiently or enhance the functionality of the wardrobes.
My requirements are that the hacks should be doable without advanced DIY skills and capable of supporting somewhat heavier items. Are there any special extensions, clever interior fittings, or alternative accessories that significantly improve the PAX system?
I would appreciate concrete tips, preferably with brief explanations of why a particular hack works well or what to watch out for. Thanks in advance!

I would recommend using sturdy metal shelves from third-party suppliers if you want to store heavy items.I completely agree with you! I also find it very practical to mount hooks or small baskets on the inside of the doors. This creates extra storage space for belts, scarves, or even jewelry – a bit like a Harry Potter magic compartment inside the wardrobe.
A small tip: When it comes to door fittings, you just need to pay attention to the correct screw size; otherwise, stability can become an issue. I solved this myself by adding some spacer screws for extra clearance.
Also – why not turn a simple PAX wardrobe door into a kind of vertical shoe rack? Just install rails or bars, park your shoes there, and gain better visibility and organization.

Hooks or small baskets mounted on the inside of the doorsThat’s really clever and quick to do. For this, it’s best to use adhesive hooks if you don’t want to drill screws. They hold surprisingly well for lighter items.
One more tip from me: use transparent storage containers so you can see inside without having to empty everything.
