Good morning everyone, I have a detailed question: Are there any long-lasting protective options for IKEA Platsa furniture that can effectively prevent common issues like scratches, water stains, and general wear over time? I am particularly interested in whether the surfaces can be treated without compromising the design or functionality, and if such measures are truly sustainable in the long term. If anyone has practical experience or recommendations, I look forward to a thorough discussion.

Thanks for all the advice! To summarize, I take away the following:
- Transparent protective films can discreetly reduce scratches and stains,
- Felt pads and edge protectors are useful for physical protection,
- Regular maintenance with plastic care products is a good supplementary measure,
- And generally, applying a new coat of paint is not recommended.

If anyone has practical tips regarding specific product brands or application methods, I would appreciate it. The same goes for any long-term experience with protective films!

Regarding protective films, I can say: special furniture protection films made of polyurethane (e.g., "transparent furniture protection film") are ideal because they are thin, durable, and relatively invisible. They are neither particularly expensive nor difficult to handle on the market. It is important that the surface is clean and free of grease before application. When removed, they do not leave any residue unless the film has been left on for too long.

For care products, I recommend those with polymer coatings and preferably without silicones, as silicones can attract dust and affect the surface’s appearance.

In conclusion: protective measures are always a compromise between appearance, effort, and effectiveness. For your living room sideboard, I consider the mentioned options sufficient.
