Hello everyone, I am considering getting the IKEA Platsa cabinet system, but I have some concerns about the quality beforehand. Therefore, I would like to know: Are there often defects with the IKEA PLATSA system, such as misaligned drill holes, poor workmanship of the connectors, or delivery errors? I am especially interested in whether these issues are common or rather rare exceptions. Also, how is the durability once the system is assembled? Can someone share their experience? Thanks in advance!

Hello rialvar, I have assembled PLATSA several times and would say that defects are not common, but they are not entirely impossible either. For example, in my last delivery, one drilling hole was slightly off – this can happen, but it’s rare. Usually, the workmanship is solid if you work carefully. It is important to check all parts thoroughly during assembly and to contact IKEA’s replacement part service immediately if there are any defects – they are generally accommodating and respond quickly.

Regarding durability: The units are modular by design but don’t support very heavy loads – proper assembly and wall mounting are essential. Personally, everything has been holding up without any problems for more than two years.

Hello,

to thoroughly answer the question about defects in IKEA PLATSA, different aspects need to be considered separately:

- Quality of the individual parts: The particle boards are generally well made, although the edges are fairly clean but not perfectly coated. Small burrs can be smoothed by the customer using fine sandpaper.

- Drill holes: The pre-drilled holes are usually very precise, but occasionally – especially during batch changes – a hole may not be perfectly positioned, which can affect the fit.

- Connectors: These are made of plastic and work well, but their load capacity depends on correct insertion and twisting. It is important to closely follow the assembly instructions here.

- Delivery: Errors in delivery are rare, but it is advisable to unpack and thoroughly check all parts before assembly.

I’m also curious about some details of your planned setup: How many modules do you want to connect, and will the system be fixed to the wall? Sometimes supposed defects result from incorrect assembly or unsuitable loads.

In general, I can say: If you work carefully, do not overload PLATSA, and ensure solid wall fixing, the system is stable and offers good value for money.

Hello rialvar,

About a year ago, I assembled a PLATSA system and encountered two minor issues: First, one of the screws in the set was damaged, which I only noticed during assembly. Fortunately, I was able to easily order a replacement from IKEA. Second, the surface of one of the shadow gap panels was not completely even, but this could be fixed with some sanding and paint.

However, I wouldn’t say such defects are common – these exceptions do happen, and the company responds reasonably to them. A tip: be sure to follow the assembly instructions carefully and check each part for defects before assembling. Once assembled, the system is quite stable if properly secured.

To be honest, the question about defects with IKEA PLATSA is a bit tricky. Of course, no one sells a perfect product, but I often see people put too much strain on the system.

That’s exactly the point – “working carefully.” Many people lack patience and get disappointed when something doesn’t fit right away.

And honestly, PLATSA is not a solid wood shelf, but a modular particleboard system with plastic connectors. You can’t expect miracles at that price.

You have to use the system as it was designed: light use, low weight, proper assembly. If you don’t, you’re more likely to find defects.

So, if you’re looking for an all-purpose cabinet that can handle everything: no, PLATSA is not that.

Hello everyone,

I can largely confirm LIELCHEN’s assessment. I used PLATSA for my home office and am satisfied with the quality – even though the system is not professional-grade woodworking. The key is to pay attention to detail from the very beginning: especially getting the correct angles and securely fastening to the wall to avoid problems later on.

I completely agree with that. Many complaints come from underestimating the weight or load. For example, anyone storing heavy file folders or equipment in parts not designed for such loads will sooner or later encounter issues.

Conclusion: Defects can occur, but they are not the norm if you proceed carefully.
