FOSONHello everyone,
I recently installed an IKEA Brimnes bed with drawers and noticed some uncertainties regarding the drawer slides. Are there any known issues with the drawer slides in the Brimnes system? Specifically, I am interested in whether stiffness, malfunction, or even failures occur frequently, especially under higher loads or after extended use. I would also like to know if these are typical design flaws or if incorrect installation is often the cause of such problems. I would appreciate any experiences and tips on proper installation or troubleshooting.
Thanks in advance!

I would like to add a few technical details regarding the Brimnes drawer slides that might be helpful. The system uses standard metal runners, which IKEA produces quite cost-effectively, meaning the quality can vary somewhat. Overall, the concept is sturdy, but there are some points to keep in mind:
- The runners are prone to deformation if subjected to excessive point loads, for example, when the drawer is very full or if it is pulled out improperly too far.
- The mounting screws must be inserted precisely into the designated threaded holes, as the material of the drawer carcasses is not highly durable. Mistakes here can quickly lead to misalignment.
- Lubricants are generally not recommended, but sometimes a drop of silicone oil can help reduce stiffness.
- In my experience, retightening the screws after some time is important because they can loosen due to movement.
Have you noticed whether your drawers stick or don’t run smoothly when opened? Or have you encountered any issues with alignment during assembly?

Have you perhaps noticed if the drawers stick or don’t slide smoothly when opening? Or are you having alignment issues during assembly?Thank you for the detailed analysis! Actually, one of the lower drawers sometimes sticks, especially when it’s fully loaded. The drawer slides feel slightly stiff when pulling out, and it seems like the drawer is slightly misaligned. I assembled everything carefully, all screws are tight, but maybe small adjustments are needed or I installed the slides slightly crooked.
I will check if tightening the screws again or slight adjustments help. Are there any other checks to prevent misalignment? Also, what about the load capacity – is there a maximum weight that should not be exceeded?

IKEA specifies a maximum load of about 15 kg (33 lbs) per drawer; beyond that, it gets tricky.

Retightening the screws after some time is importantAbsolutely! Sometimes the real problem is loose screws, not the drawer slide itself. So grab a screwdriver, do a little adjustment, and everything usually runs smoothly again. And don’t be afraid to apply a drop of lubricant—there’s no shame in that 😉
