Hello everyone!
I have a fairly specific question that’s been on my mind for some time, and I’m hoping someone with relevant experience can help: Are there affordable edge bandings suitable for the IKEA KALLAX shelving unit that can be found at hardware stores?
I’m looking for a solution that is not only cost-effective but also convincing in terms of durability and ease of application. Since KALLAX has quite thin edges, it’s important to me that the edge banding isn’t too thick and adheres well to the MDF.
Maybe someone has tips on particular brands, hardware store chains, or alternative sources for so-called "edge bandings" that have already been tried and tested?
Thanks in advance for your replies!

1. Lightly sand with 180-grit sandpaper; this is enough to remove loose particles.
2. Remove dust with a dry cloth or brush.
3. If edges are painted, lightly sand to ensure the edge banding adheres properly.
Do not use moisture when cleaning, as it can reduce the adhesive strength.

For optimal results, I use a bone folder for gentle pressure after ironing. This helps prevent air bubbles and ensures clean, finished edges.
In my opinion, the project "edge banding on KALLAX" is very achievable with a bit of care and can really create an affordable, high-quality effect.

sarGabriel17 Jan 2016 12:04I often use simple edge banding from d-c-fix, available at hardware stores. It is cost-effective, easy to apply cleanly, and fits well with the KALLAX shelving unit. The key factors are always the right width and a steady hand when using the iron.
