Hello everyone,

I am currently planning a custom wardrobe system using the IKEA Platsa range. I have a question about whether any of the Platsa drawer variants include models or accessories with soft-close, damped drawer slides. I am particularly interested in options that allow for smooth and quiet closing, as this is important for everyday use in my open-plan kitchen.

Does anyone have experience or knowledge about whether IKEA Platsa offers soft-close drawer slides as standard or optional? If so, which specific variants are available, and how do their quality and installation compare to traditional metal slides?

Thank you in advance for your insights and advice.

Hello,

I would like to look at this question in more detail: IKEA Platsa generally offers drawer systems with various types of runners. In my observation, the standard version often features simple metal runners without soft-close. However, there are indeed electric and mechanical options for soft closing—these, to my knowledge, are mostly intended for other IKEA systems such as Metod or Pax.

For Platsa itself, I have not found clear evidence of official versions with soft-close runners. A possible workaround might be installing aftermarket soft-close dampers or combining with expert soft-close technology, but this increases the installation effort.

Are you sure that the product description does not mention soft-close runners for Platsa as well? I would recommend checking the exact article number and contacting IKEA customer service or checking the online store directly.

To add: According to my research and a look at the official IKEA product overview, the Platsa system generally comes with standard drawer slides featuring plastic runners without integrated soft-close dampers.

Soft-close drawer slides are typically offered by IKEA explicitly as a “soft-close” option for system lines such as PAX, METOD, or Besta. Platsa is positioned more functionally and at a lower price point, so these features are less common.

Here is a brief summary:
- Platsa: standard slides, no integrated damping
- Soft-close slides: available for PAX, METOD, BESTA

Installing soft-close dampers in Platsa drawers is technically possible but not officially supported by IKEA. If very quiet and smooth-closing drawers are desired, switching the system or retrofitting third-party accessories should be considered.

Hello everyone,

I would like to share a brief guide for anyone interested in upgrading the soft-close drawer slides on IKEA Platsa units themselves.

- Basically, the original Platsa drawers come with simple, non-soft-close plastic slides.
- To achieve a soft-close function, there are two options:
- Installing special soft-close adapter kits for the existing slide frame (usually from third-party suppliers, e.g., retrofitting sets like "BLUMOTION").
- Completely replacing the drawer slides with a suitable soft-close system, which often requires modifications to the construction.

When retrofitting, it is especially important to pay attention to the installation dimensions and the damping direction to avoid the drawer getting stuck or binding.

Another point: soft-close systems usually need a gentle closing pressure, so the drawer should be well adjusted.

In summary: IKEA does not officially offer Platsa versions with soft-close drawer slides, but this can be achieved through retrofitting. It’s best to plan this before assembly to avoid surprises.

I hope this is helpful!

Thank you very much for the detailed explanation. I am currently facing a similar decision. It is especially important to me that the drawers close quietly, as they are located in an open-plan living area.

Has anyone had practical experience with how well these retrofit kits work? Do the drawers actually close noticeably softer and more quietly, or is it just a minimal effect?

I would also like to know if installing the retrofit kits involves a manageable amount of effort, or if you should be somewhat skilled in DIY.

I would appreciate any experience reports.

I retrofitted Platsa drawers with Blumotion dampers.
The result is noticeably quieter and smoother when closing.
Installation is doable with some patience and precise measuring, but it’s not complicated.
Tools needed: screwdriver and possibly a drill.

Effort: about 1 hour per drawer.

Functionality: very good, comparable to more expensive systems.
