Hello everyone,

I have a specific question regarding the Ikea Platsa cabinet series: Are there actually versions or finishes of Ikea Platsa that come in colors—meaning not just the typical white, gray, or wood-tone finishes? I’m asking because I urgently need a colored front or at least colored elements for a project, without having to apply vinyl wraps or custom paint jobs.

I’m mainly looking for panels, doors, or fronts with a colored surface, preferably factory-finished, as I want a simple and clean solution. Does anyone have experience or know if Ikea offers this service or color options for Platsa at all?

Thanks for your opinions or any information!

No, Ikea Platsa is only available in a few neutral colors, mainly white and wood finishes. Bright or colored surfaces are not offered by default.

Hello Jessiean,

to answer your question in more detail: The Ikea Platsa series is primarily designed for modularity and functionality, not for a wide color range. Officially, Ikea offers only six standard colors, all very neutral:

- White
- White with a smooth finish
- Light gray
- Dark gray
- Oak veneer
- Black-brown

Unfortunately, you won’t find any colorful fronts there.

If you still want colored surfaces, you basically have two options:

- Applying vinyl wraps or painting yourself (even though you want to avoid that)
- Alternative fronts from third-party suppliers – there are so-called “Ikea Hack” providers on some platforms that make colorful fronts specifically for Platsa.

I recommend using the Ikea planner to take a close look at the available colors. If you decide to paint yourself, make sure to use the right primer and check compatibility with Platsa materials, otherwise you might get streaks or bubbles.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the detailed overview. I’m particularly interested in whether Ikea might consider launching a special edition or limited colored surface at some point, as I imagine many customers are not fully satisfied with the standard colors.

Is there anyone among you who works at Ikea or has access to insider information about whether colored Platsa fronts will be available in the future? Or if the product range will be expanded? I would prefer not to go for a custom solution if official colored panels will be introduced soon.

To my knowledge, Ikea does not plan to offer colored Platsa surfaces. In their range, you will not find colorful fronts, only neutral colors. I am also not aware of any special editions.

I don’t have direct insider information, but nothing like that has been announced in the Ikea community or by dealers in recent months. The Platsa concept is quite minimalist and designed for easy interchangeability. Therefore, colorful finishes do not really fit into the design concept.

My advice: If color is important to you, you might consider having the fronts and doors professionally painted afterward. It’s a bit more effort, but Ikea does not offer that service themselves.
