Hello everyone,
I am currently wondering if there are special versions or accessories for the Ikea Platsa models that are specifically designed for child safety. More specifically, I am interested in whether Ikea offers or integrates additional safety elements within the PLATSA system that prevent small children from opening doors by themselves or getting injured by electrical sockets, drawers, or shelving compartments.
Since PLATSA is a modular system, I am curious if it is possible to retrofit special child safety devices or if there are particular models with built-in safety mechanisms available.
I look forward to your experiences or reliable information on whether there are official safety features from Ikea for PLATSA. Thank you in advance!

I would be interested to know if there is any experience regarding whether the Ikea child safety chains or locks actually work reliablyFrom my own experience, I can say that Ikea’s child safety devices work quite well for typical toddlers. Most of these locks require some force to open, so while adults have no trouble, children are effectively discouraged.

How about installation, especially with PLATSA – are the fittings for such additional safety devices easy to manageInstallation is usually straightforward because the surfaces of Platsa furniture are smooth and easily accessible. Most safety devices are either clipped on or attached with adhesive, so hardly any tools are needed. If the option involves screws, you should work carefully, but generally, it’s not complicated at all.

I am also curious if there is any practical experience regarding whether Ikea child safety chains or locks actually work reliablyI would add that many parents use double locking mechanisms, especially if there are very active children in the household. For example, sliding bolts are often combined with magnetic locks to provide extra protection.

Important: Before purchasing, make sure to check whether the furniture material is affected by the mounting materials used (e.g., adhesive strips).
