Hello everyone,

I am currently planning a new closet system and have been looking closely at the Ikea Platsa series. My specific question is: Are there Platsa models with soft-close drawers, or is this feature generally not available for Platsa?

It is important for me to know whether Ikea offers retrofit solutions for this or if certain versions of this series come with soft-close drawers, possibly as an optional feature or accessory.

I have done some research, but the information is quite conflicting and often very general. Therefore, I would really appreciate clear guidance or firsthand experiences from you regarding the Platsa series—ideally with details on availability, installation, or practicality.

Thanks in advance!

Here are some details:

IKEA Platsa typically uses full-extension metal drawer slides, but they do not have built-in soft-close dampers. Soft-close is not integrated into this series.

The reason lies in the design of the drawer runners, which are not compatible with IKEA’s original soft-close dampers.

If you want to retrofit soft-close functionality, you need to consider whether to use external clip-on soft-close dampers or complete drawer slides with soft-close. This requires precise adjustment of the length and mounting points.

Additionally, load capacity varies: soft-close slides often come from different drawer systems with sometimes higher weight ratings — this must be taken into account during planning.

My recommendation is to carefully measure the exact dimensions of your Platsa drawers and then look specifically for compatible soft-close options. Another factor is how the fronts are mounted, since the mounting angle can sometimes affect the closing mechanism.

I’m happy to help if you provide your exact measurements and intended applications.

Anyone wanting Platsa with soft-close should consider whether the effort involved in retrofitting and possible compatibility issues is really efficient or if it might be better to simply buy a series with soft-close from the start.

I understand your reasoning well. Especially since I once tried to upgrade Platsa drawers with soft-close myself and ran into some uncertainties.

Of course, it’s very satisfying when everything works smoothly, but the stress and time spent tinkering should not be underestimated.

For those with little time or who don’t like dealing with technical details, there are many reasons to simply choose the appropriate system with soft-close right away.

And still: For everyone taking the low-budget route or who enjoy DIY, I find it impressive what people report here! It shows that it is generally doable.

I wish everyone attempting it the best of luck—and am happy to help if any questions come up.
