BasunauHello everyone,
I am currently planning a custom closet solution and am particularly interested in the IKEA PLATSA system. My question is quite specific: Are there any models or configuration options within the PLATSA range that include doors and drawers with a soft-close feature? Ideally, I am looking for options that come standard or at least are available as optional accessories to ensure especially quiet and gentle closing.
I understand that many IKEA systems typically do not include soft-close as standard, but with PLATSA this feature is especially important to me since the closet will be used in a living and sleeping area. Perhaps someone already has experience, knows about possible modifications, or official upgrades from IKEA.
I look forward to your suggestions and advice!

the PLATSA models do not come with soft-close doors or drawers as standard. However, you can purchase and install soft-close hinges and dampers separately. IKEA does not offer official soft-close versions for PLATSA.

To add: Currently, there are no PLATSA models with integrated soft-close functionality.
- Doors come with standard hinges.
- Drawers have basic full-extension slides without damping.
The only way to achieve soft-close is by retrofitting appropriate soft-close hinges and damped drawer slides from third-party suppliers or IKEA-compatible kits. Compatibility and installation requirements should be carefully considered, as modifications to the PLATSA construction may be necessary.
This situation reflects the standard in the furniture segment for modular systems in this price range.

I am still interested to know if anyone has experience with which soft-close hinges and drawer slides work best for PLATSA. Are there typical modification solutions that other users have tried?
Also: How complex is the retrofit? Do you have to do a lot of work on the cabinet carcass, or are most parts plug-and-play?
I am trying to create a cabinet with the PLATSA system that is as quiet and durable as possible, without requiring too much effort or special tools.
Here are some tips for retrofitting a soft-close function to PLATSA, based on my research and personal modification attempts:
- IKEA sells soft-close hinges (e.g., for METOD) that can theoretically be installed on PLATSA carcasses, but often the drilling holes need to be adjusted since PLATSA has different dimensions.
- For drawers, I recommend damped metal runners from third-party suppliers, as IKEA does not provide soft-close drawer slides specifically for PLATSA.
- The retrofit requires precision: drilling must be exact to properly mount the dampers. This can be done by measuring carefully and using clamp or press-fit installation methods.
- It is not entirely plug-and-play, but with some DIY skills and the right materials, it is quite feasible.
- For those who have high standards for smooth operation and damping, it is better to install separate soft-close fittings rather than relying on the standard setup.
In summary: Soft-close is not standard for PLATSA, but it is technically possible with external components and modifications. It is important to measure everything carefully and plan any adjustments before purchasing.
If anyone needs more details or specific supplier recommendations, I’m happy to provide tips.
