Hello everyone, I hope someone here can help me. I am currently planning to purchase an Ikea Platsa system for my living room and came across the question of whether there are Platsa models that already come with built-in power outlets. My goal is to avoid having to hide external power strips behind the furniture and instead have an integrated solution that is neat and functional. Does anyone know if Ikea offers Platsa modules with integrated outlets, or if power outlets always need to be installed separately? Are there alternative solutions, either within Ikea or from other sources? I would appreciate it if you could share your experiences, knowledge, or tips on this. Thank you in advance!

The standard modules are purely furniture components, meaning frames, shelves, and doors.Exactly, no built-in electrical features included. But hey, sometimes people come up with really creative DIY ideas that work perfectly from a technical standpoint. For example, I’ve seen someone install a USB charging station inside a Platsa door by cleverly hiding a flat power bank and USB hub. It’s obviously not a built-in outlet, but at least close to having an "integrated" power connection. Maybe something like that could work for you?
Here is a brief overview of how to effectively integrate power outlets in or behind furniture:
- Use flat power strips with surge protection.
- Ensure the power source is easily accessible and that the cable is long enough.
- Use cable ducts or clips to neatly organize wiring and avoid tripping hazards.
- Make sure no heat builds up—adequate air circulation is essential.
- For fixed installations (e.g., hardwired furniture outlets), always consult a qualified electrician.
Additionally, some manufacturers offer special furniture outlets designed for built-in use, but not Ikea itself—these are more commonly found from office or kitchen furniture suppliers. For Platsa, you will need a suitable combination of external accessories and possibly some DIY work.

One more quick addition from my side: I contacted Ikea customer service, and they confirmed that there are no Platsa units with built-in power outlets, nor any official accessories for that. Their recommendation was also to use an external power strip inside the cabinet and to ensure proper cable management.
Are there any other tips on what to consider when purchasing or assembling the units if I want to integrate the power outlet solution? For example, specific panels or empty compartments better suited for housing power strips or electronics?

Additionally, you can also use the internal height to place flat power strips inside.
Planning tip: Measure carefully in advance to ensure that your power strip and cable management will actually fit inside the furniture.
