Hello everyone,

I am planning to buy some furniture from the Ikea PLATSA series because it is very flexible and practical. However, for furniture that I use for a longer time, I also place great importance on aesthetics – especially the handles. My question is: Are there any Ikea PLATSA pieces that come with stylish wooden handles, or at least options to attach such handles?

If there are no original wooden handles from Ikea for PLATSA, do you know of any cool alternatives or solutions that fit well and also look attractive?

I would appreciate any firsthand experiences, tips, or suggestions!

Ikea does not offer PLATSA models with wooden handles.

However, you can easily install standard wooden handles from hardware stores or specialized shops. The holes are standardized, so many options will fit. Just look for wooden handles with a hole spacing of 128mm (5 inches).

I think the simple metal handles of PLATSA have their own charm, but if you prefer a natural, warm touch, wooden handles are definitely the way to go! 😎

Although Ikea doesn’t offer wooden handles specifically for PLATSA, attaching them is usually straightforward. In short: just drill a few holes, and the furniture instantly feels much more homely.

Oh, and you can also try whether untreated or oiled handles fit better with your interior. Wood is very versatile – and still looks great after many years!

Hello liskau9,

To answer your question both technically and practically: Currently, Ikea does not offer PLATSA furniture with pre-installed wooden handles. The standard versions come with plastic or metal handles that are mounted by default.

For a custom solution, I recommend the following approach:

- First, check the hole spacing of the handles on your PLATSA model; it is usually 128 mm (5 inches) center-to-center.
- Look for wooden handles with the same spacing or have them customized.
- Also, pay attention to the thickness of the furniture material—some PLATSA fronts are thinner and require careful drilling.
- Screws work well to securely attach the handles and also provide stability.

If you are drilling the holes yourself, measuring accurately is crucial; otherwise, the handle may not fit properly or could appear crooked. Alternatively, you can consider adhesive handles or wooden handle strips if you want to avoid drilling.

I’m curious: What is most important to you about the wooden handles? Design, grain pattern, size? Could you briefly describe your interior so that recommendations can be more targeted?

Honestly, I’m not a big fan of this wooden-handle obsession. It’s often just a trend that fades away. Especially with Ikea furniture, which tends to be minimalist, I find the original handles much better matched. Wooden handles often feel like an afterthought and can even disrupt the design.

There’s definitely the option, but wouldn’t it be better to consider models or series that are designed that way from the start? Choosing a handle that doesn’t fit the original design sometimes raises more questions than it solves.
