Hello everyone,

I am currently planning the furnishing of my new apartment and am particularly interested in the Platsa furniture series from Ikea. My main question is: Does Ikea Platsa furniture come with soft-close doors?

I understand that soft-close mechanisms are standard in many furniture pieces nowadays, as they reduce door slamming, minimizing both noise and wear. However, I have not found any indications in the official Platsa product descriptions that the doors come with soft-close functionality as standard or even as an option.

I would appreciate it if anyone with experience could share whether Ikea Platsa furniture actually features soft-close doors or if they can be retrofitted. Are there differences between the various door types or sizes? And what about the availability of such fittings for Platsa?

Thanks in advance for your input!

I consider this question quite relevant because many users rely solely on the promised soft-close feature without verifying whether it is actually included in specific series like PLATSA.

To my knowledge, Ikea does not offer a soft-close function directly for PLATSA doors. PLATSA is a very flexible system with interchangeable modules, but Ikea has not published any information about soft-close hinges for the standard doors so far.

If you specifically want the soft-close feature, it would be advisable to check detailed technical datasheets or ask directly at the IKEA store. Alternatively, there are third-party fittings available that can be retrofitted, but these often lack official compatibility guarantees.

It would be interesting to hear if anyone has successfully installed soft-close hardware on PLATSA and how compatible it is.

Hello!

I can explain this a bit: Ikea PLATSA typically comes with standard hinges that do not have an integrated soft-close feature. However, the doors on PLATSA are designed so that the hinges can be replaced with common cup hinges.

Many customers retrofit soft-close hinges themselves by using compatible models that have the same drilling pattern and mounting system. This way, you can improve the convenience without having to buy new furniture or doors.

As far as I know, Ikea does not currently offer an official soft-close option specifically for PLATSA. If you prefer soft-close, you should either consider retrofitting or look into other Ikea systems that include this feature directly.

I hope this helps!

In short: No, PLATSA does not come with soft-close doors by default. Retrofitting is possible if you find compatible hinges.

I can only agree with that. Researching the current product catalogs and reviewing Ikea’s official website shows that the PLATSA series is equipped exclusively with standard cabinet hinges, without factory-set soft-close functionality.

Technically, the system is based on standard dimensions, which does allow for retrofitting with soft-close fittings. However, it should be noted that not all commercially available soft-close hinges fit PLATSA exactly, as the drill holes or door thickness may vary.

For users who want the soft-close feature, purchasing separate hinges is recommended. Brands like Blum or Hettich offer models that are partially compatible and include soft-close technology. Retrofitting, however, requires some DIY skills.

I advise carefully checking the measurements and mounting options before buying a retrofit solution to avoid wrong purchases. Otherwise, Ikea’s own systems—such as the METOD kitchen series—have soft-close functionality integrated by default.
