Hello everyone,

I am currently planning a new living room setup and have been focusing on the PLATSA series from IKEA. However, I have a specific question that I haven't been able to find a satisfactory answer to: Are there sliding doors available as an integrated or separately purchasable option within the IKEA PLATSA furniture range? My idea is to create storage equipped with space-saving sliding doors to maximize efficiency in a small area. I am interested in both existing solutions and possible alternatives or modifications that can be implemented with PLATSA components. Does anyone have experience or background knowledge on this?

I look forward to your tips and insights!

Hello,

Currently, IKEA does not offer original sliding door components specifically for the PLATSA series. PLATSA is mainly modular with hinged doors or drawers, which is partly because the system is designed to be highly adaptable to various room layouts.

However, there are some creative approaches. Many recommend using sliding doors from other IKEA ranges combined with some DIY skills, or opting for aftermarket sliding door systems that can be mounted externally on the furniture. These are not exactly plug-and-play solutions.

If sliding doors are essential, it might be worth considering other systems like the PAX system, which does include sliding doors.

I hope this helps clarify the situation.

Absolutely! I was lucky to install my PLATSA shelving unit in a narrow hallway and initially thought sliding doors would be great to save space. 😀 Unfortunately, they don't exist, but with grip rails and well-closing hinged or swinging doors, the unit works really well!

What I can also recommend: don’t be afraid to improvise a bit. Some users here on the forum have even attached sliding door tracks externally to the PLATSA and built their own doors with matching wooden panels. If needed, just try it out—it’s really not as complicated as it sounds.

I would say: creativity and DIY can help if you don’t find what you need in the standard options. So, don’t get discouraged!

In summary, the following can be said regarding this question:

- The IKEA PLATSA series consists of modular closet units with doors, drawers, and open compartments.
- Official sliding door elements specifically for PLATSA are not part of the product range.
- Sliding door solutions can be retrofitted technically but are complex and require custom modifications.
- For sliding doors in furniture, the IKEA PAX system is recommended, as it is explicitly offered with sliding doors and is modularly suitable for many room situations.

Based on this, I advise considering the PAX system for sliding door projects in general. Otherwise, conversion options are possible but are better suited for experienced DIYers with the appropriate tools.

If you need further information or concrete implementation examples, I am happy to assist.
