Hello everyone, I am currently planning our new wall unit and am particularly interested in the IKEA Platsa series. I have a specific question: Are there models or components within the PLATSA furniture range that feature drawers with proper runners, allowing them to be smoothly pulled out—similar to traditional dressers? I ask because I have read that some PLATSA elements mainly consist of open compartments or fixed shelves, but for everyday use, pull-out drawers would obviously be much more practical. Maybe someone is familiar with the latest versions or can share their personal experience regarding whether suitable solutions exist now, or if you generally need to consider alternative organization options with PLATSA? Thanks in advance!

Hello roka5,

to answer your question thoroughly: The IKEA Platsa furniture series is very flexible due to its modular design, especially when it comes to drawers. There are indeed specific drawer modules equipped with metal sliding rails that provide a smooth opening mechanism. These drawer modules are sold separately and are fundamentally different from open shelves or simple storage boxes.

Here are a few points to consider when using pull-out drawers in PLATSA:
- The depth of the drawers is usually around 35 cm (14 inches) or slightly less.
- Each module is designed to support a maximum load of about 10–15 kg (22–33 lbs).
- Drawer fronts come in different designs and colors – compatibility with the drawer system is important.
- For slim cabinets, a combination of cabinet doors and inner drawers is recommended – practical for organization and dust protection.

I also recommend checking out PLATSA modules in a “assembled” state at the store or showroom before purchase, as the tactile operation is an important factor for many.

If you want, I can also share some tips on how to organize the interior of the drawers efficiently. Many use cutlery trays or small plastic boxes, which can be easily adapted.

If you have any more questions, feel free to ask!
