Hello everyone, I am currently planning our new wall unit and am particularly interested in the IKEA Platsa series. I have a specific question: Are there models or components within the PLATSA furniture range that feature drawers with proper runners, allowing them to be smoothly pulled out—similar to traditional dressers? I ask because I have read that some PLATSA elements mainly consist of open compartments or fixed shelves, but for everyday use, pull-out drawers would obviously be much more practical. Maybe someone is familiar with the latest versions or can share their personal experience regarding whether suitable solutions exist now, or if you generally need to consider alternative organization options with PLATSA? Thanks in advance!
Hello roka5, regarding your question about pull-out drawers in the IKEA PLATSA series: PLATSA is basically modular and offers a variety of different components. The version with pull-out drawers does exist, but you need to pay close attention to the appropriate interior fittings.
The PLATSA system furniture includes so-called drawer modules, which have a slight overhang edge – this means they come with guide rails to open the drawers smoothly and cleanly. Unlike open compartments or cabinet doors, these drawers are genuinely pull-out.
It is important to check the official product names such as “drawer box” or “drawer front” when purchasing, as there are also shelves or simple carcass parts without drawer functions. Additionally, PLATSA can be expanded with special drawer runners to ensure optimal smoothness of operation.
Can you specify the exact dimensions you need and the intended use of the drawers? Then I might be able to provide you with more specific advice.

Hello roka5, I am currently using a PLATSA dresser with pull-out drawers myself. The drawers run on metal runners, which makes pulling them out very smooth. Make sure you don’t just buy the fronts, but also the drawer units with the guide rails. A small tip: if you plan to put a lot of weight in the drawers, it’s a good idea to check the maximum load, which is usually around 10–15 kg (22–33 lbs) per drawer.
For organizing, additional inserts could help, which IKEA also offers for PLATSA, to keep everything sorted. Overall, PLATSA offers good flexibility. I would recommend visiting an IKEA store to try out the individual modules and get a feel for the mechanism yourself.

Make sure you don’t just buy the fronts, but also the full drawer units with the runners. That’s exactly the crucial point. Many underestimate that the fronts alone are not enough if you want the drawers to operate smoothly and comfortably. You need the complete drawer box including the runners, because otherwise the drawer is just a simple panel clipped onto the front.
Additionally, with PLATSA, keep in mind that the depth of the units is limited. Maximum drawer depths are often just over 30 cm (12 inches), so it usually works well for smaller items or clothing. For larger items, other systems are more suitable.
By the way, if you plan to install the furniture behind doors, there is also the option of internal drawers that slide inside the cabinet and become visible when the door is open. This is something to consider based on your individual needs.
