Hello everyone,

I am currently looking more closely into the various storage systems from IKEA, especially the PLATSA series. My question is quite specific: Is there a modular drawer system within the PLATSA furniture that can be individually configured and expanded?

I’m not just interested in single drawers that can be used, but in a concept where drawer components can be flexibly combined, similar to a building block system. I would like to know if IKEA offers special modular drawer systems within the PLATSA range that can be adjusted, rearranged, or expanded as needed. Maybe someone also has practical experience with such systems, for example regarding stability, assembly, or accessories.

Thanks in advance for your feedback and suggestions!

Yes, the PLATSA series offers modular drawers that can be assembled in various combinations. You can purchase individual drawer units and insert them into the frame. There are also inserts and dividers for better organization. The systems are flexible and expandable.

I like the PLATSA system precisely because it’s like a drawer puzzle – everything fits together perfectly, and you can expand your own "drawer empire" however you like. 👍

Exactly, and the inserts are great too if you want to keep things neat. You almost feel like a warehouse manager in your own living room!

It’s interesting that you confirm the complete modular system. However, it is also important to consider how durable these drawers are with frequent use.

This raises the question of whether the modular design remains stable over time, especially when multiple modules are combined. Has anyone had experience with the assembly of the drawer frames and the sliding mechanism regarding their long-term durability, or do the modules tend to loosen and become unstable sooner?

The weight of the drawer contents could also be a factor here. Those who regularly store heavy items should keep this in mind before expanding too extensively.

The concern raised by theo63 is valid. I personally own the PLATSA drawer system and can confirm that its modularity is an advantage – you can combine different modules to customize the storage space precisely.

However, when purchasing, it is important to ensure that the drawer units are not overloaded and that the assembly instructions are followed carefully. The drawer slides are not designed for very heavy loads but work well for typical household items.

Additionally, the drawer inserts are very practical for organizing belongings. Overall, the PLATSA drawer system is well-designed, modular, and offers plenty of room for customization – provided that the recommended load limits are observed.
