Hello everyone, I am currently planning some furniture pieces from the Ikea Platsa series and have come across the question of whether there are versions of these furniture items equipped with magnetic closing mechanisms.
Specifically, I am interested in whether Ikea offers doors or drawers for PLATSA cabinets or dressers that use magnetic closures, meaning they operate without conventional snap locks or mechanical handles.
I want to ensure that the doors close well while also being as quiet and smooth to use as possible. If anyone has experience with PLATSA furniture and its closing methods: Are magnetic solutions available as a standard option or as accessories?
Or do I need to modify the furniture or use separate magnetic locks to achieve a magnetic closure? Thank you very much for your opinions and advice!

I want to make sure the doors close well, while also being as quiet and smooth to operate as possible. This goal is often satisfactorily achieved with Ikea Platsa furniture using the standard fittings, especially when using the soft-close hinge options that Ikea offers separately.
However, soft-close is not a magnetic lock but rather a cushioning effect when closing.

Besides the possibility of retrofitting magnetic catches, there is also the option of damping systems (soft-close), which are not necessarily magnetic.A combination of both—a gentle soft-close hinge along with an additional magnetic catch—would provide a very high-quality functionality. However, this would be a custom solution, not directly from Ikea.
If you want to install this, I would recommend knowing the exact door dimensions and testing with a small magnet to determine how strong the hold should be.
I can understand how frustrating it can be when doors don’t close properly or are too noisy.
Magnetic catches often provide more convenience, but unfortunately, they are not included as standard with PLATSA.
If you decide to retrofit them, I would recommend trying it step by step – maybe start with a small magnetic catch on one door before modifying everything.
This way, you can better judge if you like the operation and if it fits your furniture style. And don’t worry, if you need help, there will surely be some people here who can offer advice!
