Stephan8Hello everyone, I’m currently looking into the Ikea Platsa furniture, specifically for my home office. My question is whether Ikea actually offers furniture with integrated power outlets for the Platsa cabinet systems or other versions?
I can easily imagine that, especially in times of increasingly connected workspaces, integrated power supply in furniture can be very convenient – for example, built into shelves, cabinets, or sideboards to directly connect chargers, lamps, or other devices.
Does anyone have experience with this or know detailed information about whether Ikea Platsa furniture includes such power outlets or USB ports? Or if there are suitable modular solutions available to add?
I would like to know this as specifically as possible, since I pay close attention to ensuring the furniture does not require too many extra cables and that the power supply is neatly integrated. Thanks in advance for your feedback!

Basically, Ikea does not offer Platsa furniture with factory-integrated power outlets or USB ports.
Ikea focuses on flexible, modular storage with Platsa, without electronic components. Power outlet modules are not included.
One possible solution is to use external power strips or special cable channels that can be mounted behind or inside the furniture. Ikea does offer separate electrification solutions for other furniture lines, but not for Platsa.
If you want an integrated solution, you may need to turn to third-party manufacturers for cable management and power outlet modules or make custom modifications yourself.

Practically, the Platsa units are purely furniture modules, meaning cabinets, drawers, and shelves without any electrical installation. If you want to integrate electrical devices, several approaches are possible:
- Using external power strips that you cleverly hide inside
- Installing cable pass-throughs on the back panel to avoid cable clutter
- Installing a wired outlet module, for example with a cable conduit or surface-mounted wiring
These solutions are not Ikea-specific and must be custom-made or purchased individually.
In some forums, I’ve seen DIYers install LED light strips with USB ports or power strips inside Platsa furniture, but this is not a standard Ikea solution.
What exactly are you planning? Do you need outlets for a laptop, phone, lamps? What level of electrification do you envision? That would help provide more suitable advice.

I actually want to power a laptop, monitor, and some peripheral devices inside the cabinet. The idea is that I want to place the desk somewhat flexibly, but still need fixed power sources to avoid cable clutter.
I’m thinking of solutions that could possibly be installed into Platsa units myself, such as power strips that can be neatly hidden or maybe making cutouts in the back panels for cable management.
Do you have any tips on what to watch out for from a DIY perspective, or are there specific accessories that work especially well with Platsa? Also, how about safety in general when installing power outlets in furniture yourself? Thanks!
