Hello everyone,

I am currently looking into the IKEA PLATSA furniture and have a specific question: Are there any IKEA PLATSA units that come with integrated power outlets or at least an effective cable management system?

I am interested in how practical these furniture pieces are in everyday use, for example, if you want to connect multiple devices without cables lying around or having to rely on external solutions.

Does anyone have experience with models that include built-in power outlets or specific solutions from IKEA that address cable management for PLATSA?

I would appreciate any specific tips, especially if there are good design ideas or practical implementations.

In short: No, IKEA generally does not include built-in power outlets in PLATSA furniture—and this is intentional. Instead, IKEA focuses on universal furniture pieces that are versatile but not specifically designed with electrical integration in mind. Why? Because this approach allows the furniture to fit better into almost any home and style without being overloaded with fixed technologies.

When it comes to cable management, the situation is somewhat different. The PLATSA series does offer ways to route cables through slots and hollow spaces, but this is often a DIY solution by users rather than an official feature.

So, overall, this is more of a do-it-yourself area—anyone wanting something “smarter” will need to retrofit. Integrated power outlets in such a modular furniture concept would be quite innovative—but that would likely impact both the price and the flexibility significantly.

That is an interesting point you bring up. In fact, there are many reasons to believe that IKEA deliberately avoids such integration to maintain the modularity of the PLATSA series. However, I also see it as a missed opportunity, especially in times when smart home technology and efficient cable management are becoming increasingly important.

I do wonder, though, whether IKEA offers any accessories or optional features that provide hidden cable channels or clips for tidy cable routing. For example, last year I noticed in another IKEA furniture line that they at least included simple cable holders – perhaps something similar was considered for the PLATSA series but not heavily promoted?

Has anyone ever reviewed the assembly instructions or accessory options for PLATSA in detail? It seems entirely possible that there are external inserts or minimalist cable management solutions without power outlets.

And regarding safety: integrating power outlets would also require compliance with safety standards, which IKEA probably avoids in order to keep the modular system intact. This likely leaves just the option of using external solutions or retrofitting.

To add: After thorough research in the current IKEA catalogs and official product descriptions of the PLATSA series, there are no models with integrated power outlets.

Cable management is handled through openings and special cutouts that can be considered during assembly. IKEA does not provide separate cable channels or integrated power outlet modules, which is understandable from both product safety and flexibility perspectives.

For setups involving power adapters or chargers, an external power strip combined with cable clips or ties that can be attached to the back panels of the PLATSA units is recommended.

In conclusion, PLATSA scores high on versatility, but electrified furniture solutions at IKEA are generally limited to more specialized products (e.g., TISKEN lights).
