Good morning everyone, I’m currently considering whether there are suitable furniture options from the IKEA PLATSA system for the hallway. I’m particularly interested in whether the modules can be arranged to provide enough storage space for shoes, coats, and other typical hallway items, without appearing too bulky. It would also be helpful to know if the PLATSA series is complemented by matching inserts or additional furniture that work well in the entrance area, such as seating or coat racks. Does anyone have practical examples or experience with PLATSA furniture in a hallway? I have a rather narrow, elongated hallway and therefore need flexible solutions. Looking forward to your opinions and advice!

PLATSA can definitely be used in the hallway. The modules are versatile and can combine shoe compartments, cabinet doors, or open shelves. For narrow hallways, it makes sense to mount them high on the wall. Seating options are not included in the system but can be added separately if needed.

That is an important point. However, I would critically note that while PLATSA is modular and can be disassembled, it was not specifically designed as a hallway system. For hallways, stability and functionality should be the priorities – for example, sturdy shoe compartments or built-in benches. I have doubts whether PLATSA will be adequate without modifications.

As far as I know, IKEA does not offer matching seating or heavy-duty coat hooks within the PLATSA range; these belong to separate product categories. Before purchasing, it is important to carefully check whether these parts can be combined effectively or if it is better to consider other products.

I love PLATSA! Especially in the hallway, this system is a real magic tool 🙂! The ability to combine the modules exactly according to your own needs is great. I have fitted out a narrow corner myself with PLATSA: shoe compartments at the bottom, shelves on top, and a foldable bench for sitting added. Totally practical and looks much more modern than classic hallway furniture! Just stay creative — the system has so much potential! 💪

I really like how versatile PLATSA can be, especially if you have enough patience during the planning process. However, I also understand the concerns that it might not be the best solution for every hallway.

If the budget and installation become stressful, I can only recommend exchanging experiences with others in the forum and paying attention to how stable it is in daily use. Sometimes there are weaker points at the joints that are frequently used in hallways (especially with children or when the system is heavily loaded).

That is definitely helpful; we should not overlook such aspects. Perhaps someone with experience on durability could add their input?
