Does IKEA offer the PLATSA furniture series specifically for bathroom use? I am currently planning a bathroom renovation and came across the PLATSA series at IKEA, which seems very modular and customizable. However, I am unsure whether these cabinets are moisture-resistant or designed specifically for bathroom environments. Has anyone had experience with this or can confirm if there are variants or specific products within the PLATSA range suitable for bathrooms? I am particularly interested in cabinets or combinations that work well near the sink or as bathroom storage – that is, with water-resistant surfaces or appropriate fittings.
The desire for modularity in bathroom furniture is understandable.
In principle, it is possible to treat Platsa furniture with water-resistant varnishes or special coatings to make the surface more resistant to moisture. However, this requires time, some craftsmanship skills, and the application of multiple layers of protective varnish, especially on edges and backs.
Another option is to use waterproof films and seals, particularly at the joints. Nevertheless, a residual risk remains with high humidity and water splashes.
In summary: Those who are skilled in DIY and properly protect the furniture can use PLATSA in the bathroom – but it is not an officially recommended use and should always be approached with caution.
For a permanent solution, I still recommend bathroom-specific furniture.

Are there any known ways to modify PLATSA units or equip them with additional materials so that they can be used permanently in a bathroom without damage?A practical option is to cover the PLATSA carcass and fronts with a transparent waterproof film and place the furniture on legs to avoid direct contact with moisture from the floor. This can extend their lifespan.
However, this is really only worthwhile if suitable bathroom furniture options are not available.
In summary:
- IKEA PLATSA is not an official bathroom furniture line and is not marketed as such by IKEA.
- For bathrooms, IKEA recommends the GODMORGON series, which has moisture-resistant properties.
- Those who want to use PLATSA in the bathroom should take protective measures and avoid exposing the furniture to direct moisture.
- Alternatives include combinations of modules designed to prevent moisture-related damage, for example, through additional coatings, films, or isolated installation.
There are no PLATSA furniture pieces specifically made for bathrooms.
These conclusions are based on both product data and user experiences.
