Hello everyone,

I am planning to get some IKEA Platsa furniture modules, mainly cabinets and shelves. I am particularly interested in one specific feature: are there any models or add-on modules within the Platsa system that include integrated power outlets?

Specifically, I want to know how well this system accommodates technical connections, meaning power supply for devices, directly within the furniture without extra external cable clutter.

If there are no built-in power outlets in the furniture, I would also appreciate recommendations on the best way to handle this, for example with plug-in solutions or similar options.

Looking forward to hearing about your experiences or any advice on this topic!

Regarding the question: IKEA PLATSA does not offer furniture with integrated power outlets. However, you can plan and install power strips or USB charging solutions separately.

For neat cable management, cable ducts or specially designed structures within the modules are suitable.

I’m adding some details here because this question is well suited for a brief guide:

1. PLATSA furniture does not come with built-in power outlets.
2. If you want power supply inside a module, you can achieve this with a power strip, which you can attach, for example, to the back or inside a rear compartment.
3. Make sure to route cables as discreetly as possible through the holes in the back panel, which IKEA often already provides.
4. There are also clip-on power strips or flexible cable sockets that can be mounted on the top edge or side panel.
5. Important: Always pay attention to the maximum load capacity of the power strip and ensure everything is securely fixed.

Summary: IKEA does not include integrated sockets in PLATSA, but with some DIY skills, power outlets can be discreetly installed inside the furniture. This is often the best compromise for bookshelves or media units.

That’s correct; currently, there are no PLATSA versions with integrated power outlets.

Allow me to explain this in more detail:

PLATSA is modular, and while IKEA offers some electrical solutions for other furniture series, such as KALLAX with indirect lighting, there are no electrical modules in the PLATSA range. Power outlets or USB modules need to be added externally.

If you want to create a fixed power source inside a PLATSA cabinet, I recommend the following approach:
- Use a flat power strip with as short a power cord as possible
- Route the cable through the back or existing holes to the rear
- Avoid clamps or pinched cables
- If possible, secure the power strips with Velcro tape or mounting clips so they can be easily removed

Alternatively, there are professional built-in power strips designed for various furniture, but these are not officially from IKEA and must be purchased separately. Pay attention to the dimensions, mounting options, and especially to devices that are approved for furniture construction (fire safety, etc.).

If you can provide more details about your intended use (e.g., TV, charging stations, workspace), I’d be happy to suggest suitable technical solutions.

I find the assumption interesting that power outlets must necessarily be "integrated" into the furniture.

As far as I know, there aren’t any. But the question is: Is it even practical?

A built-in power outlet in movable modules or panel furniture often has some disadvantages:
- Flexibility is reduced if you want to rearrange the furniture
- Cable management becomes more complicated and can sometimes create tripping hazards
- Safety concerns should not be underestimated when outlets are hidden in small compartments

Alternatively, special cable channels or flexible power strips with cable management provide a more practical solution.

It might be sensible to first analyze your specific needs (which devices, how much power, how often used, etc.) before committing to a fixed integrated solution.
