Hello everyone,

I am currently planning a new cabinet system for my living room and have been very interested in the IKEA Platsa range. In particular, I am looking for doors that feature an integrated handle pull, as I find the look without visible handles or with built-in handle pulls very appealing and it also seems practical for everyday use.

So, my specific and somewhat detailed question to the community is: Are there doors with handle pulls available for the IKEA Platsa system? Or put differently, does the manufacturer offer doors that come factory-fitted with a handle pull integrated on the side or top, or are only doors without handles or with conventional, surface-mounted handles available?

If so, what options are there? And if not, does anyone have experience with adding handle pulls to Platsa doors afterward?

I look forward to your tips and advice, thank you in advance!

Hello!

Regarding your question: IKEA does not offer doors with integrated handle rails for the Platsa system. The doors are either handleless (meaning with a milled grip opening at the bottom or top) or have the classic surface-mounted handles that you can install separately.

This means the doors themselves do not have continuous handle rails as you might find on some kitchen cabinet fronts.

If handle rails are important to you, one option is to add them yourself by screwing or gluing a handle rail on. In that case, you should pay careful attention to the measurements to ensure the rail fits neatly and flush and does not interfere with the door’s operation.

Many forum users also recommend looking for handle rails specifically designed for furniture fronts, such as those made of aluminum or wood, which can be customized.

If you like, I can also provide some recommendations on suitable materials and profiles.

I hope this helps you for now!

Are there doors with integrated handle strips available for the IKEA Platsa system? Or to put it differently, does the manufacturer offer doors that come from the factory with a built-in handle strip on the side or top, or are only doors without handles or with traditional surface-mounted handles available?

I would like to dive a bit deeper into this topic, as the question is quite relevant for individual planning.

The Platsa range from IKEA actually stands for flexible modular furniture, characterized by minimalist door designs. The doors are currently available in two main variants:

- Handle-free, meaning they have a routed edge at the top or bottom where the door is opened. This edge is factory-made but does not have an externally visible strip—essentially a slim integrated handle zone within the door.

- Doors with classic handles that can be mounted separately. These handles are often small knobs or elongated pulls that require drilling and fixing.

The continuous handle strips you mentioned, such as those known from some kitchen fronts—a longer strip running across the entire or a large part of the door’s width or height—are not offered as a standard option for Platsa by IKEA.

If you want the look of a handle strip that serves as both a design element and a functional feature, here are some options:

- Self-installing handle strips: You can cut and attach narrow baseboard strips, aluminum profiles with an inner chamfer, or special furniture strips yourself. The challenge here usually lies in precise measuring and clean installation to achieve a high-quality result.

- Converting to handle-free by post-processing: If you have a smooth door, you could consider creating a recessed handle by routing, though this is recommended only for those with carpentry skills.

- Replacing the doors with fronts from other ranges or manufacturers that have handle strips—though this is generally more complex and might affect warranty conditions.

I’m curious whether you prefer the furniture to look more modern and minimalist, or what overall style you are planning? That can help to provide more precise suggestions.

If you like, you can share more details here about the intended use or the desired appearance, and I can assist you more specifically with measurements, profiles, and possible sources.

That’s correct, Platsa does not come with doors featuring integrated handles as standard. However, you can purchase handle strips separately as accessories or install them yourself if desired. IKEA only provides doors with handles or handleless options.
