Hello everyone,

I am planning to buy an Ikea Pax wardrobe and would like to know if there are any shelves available that are taller than the standard ones.

Specifically, I am interested in whether Ikea offers special shelves that create larger gaps between the shelves to better store items like tall shoes, larger bags, or other bulky belongings.

Alternatively, I would also like to know if there is a way to replace the standard shelves or obtain taller shelves from third parties without compromising stability.

I look forward to any experiences, tips, or recommendations from those of you who are familiar with the Pax wardrobe. Thanks in advance!

Ikea only offers shelves with fixed dimensions as standard.

If you need more space, you can simply install fewer shelves and leave more distance between them. Alternatively, larger custom-sized shelves can be made by cabinet makers.

The shelf rails on the Pax system are flexible, allowing you to roughly adjust the height as you wish.

"Alternatively, it would also be interesting to know if there is a way to replace the standard shelves or have higher custom shelves made by third parties without compromising stability."

This is an important question. Basically, the Pax shelves are designed for a standard size due to the material thickness and the way they are fixed. Higher shelves usually only work if they are custom-made by a carpenter and then fitted with the appropriate supports.

You should also keep in mind that larger shelves can sag more quickly under weight if the load-bearing capacity is not adequately ensured.

Therefore, I recommend a simple intermediate solution: install fewer shelves and make flexible use of the existing height adjustment options of the rails. This way, stability is maintained, and you have the necessary space for taller items.

Cool topic, vin68! 😊

I had a similar situation with my Pax, as I wanted to store my boots. IKEA itself doesn’t sell “extra tall” shelves, but their shelving systems are really flexible, so you can place the shelves freely. Just reposition the metal rails higher, and voilà – space for tall shoes!

That’s exactly right. So if you’re not interested in custom-made solutions, this is the best way.

Sometimes it also helps to look for alternatives to official shelves – some DIYers modify the standard shelves by adding reinforcements underneath to create longer spans without sagging.

A bit of creativity never hurts. Good luck!
