Hello everyone,

I am currently looking for very specific information about the Ikea Pax wardrobes: Are there actually models or doors made of clear or frosted glass? My idea is that such a glass front would not only look modern but could also be practical, allowing a view of the wardrobe contents or subtly concealing them, depending on whether clear or frosted glass is used.

I have already seen the standard versions with wood and mirror doors, but glass has not appeared as an option for me so far, neither in the Ikea planner nor in the showroom models.

Maybe someone here is familiar with current versions, special editions, or alternative solutions for the Pax series that offer glass doors or inserts?

Thanks in advance for your insights and tips!

Basically, Ikea does not offer true glass doors—neither clear glass nor frosted glass—as a standard option for their Pax systems.

Most door variants are made of coated wood, MDF, or mirrored glass. For glass fronts, you would need to look at custom solutions, such as third-party doors with appropriate glass panels, or modify the doors yourself.

I would recommend specifically checking for special parts in the Ikea configurator and, for particular requirements, consulting a professional glazier or glass specialist for suitable inserts.

Be careful with self-assembly: glass is fragile and must be precisely fitted to ensure the doors close properly and remain stable.

I can agree with that. I have used the Pax systems extensively for years and have made various modifications as well. Ikea itself only sells mirrored doors and some semi-transparent plastic or metal doors, but no genuine glass doors in the sense of real glass, which could mean either clear or frosted glass.

Technically, installing glass panels into the existing door frames is certainly possible, but it is not officially supported by Ikea. The standard doors mostly use furniture boards or mirrors, which you could replace with some DIY skills.

If you want transparent or frosted glass doors, the procedure would be:
- Remove the aluminum frames of the Pax doors
- Have safety glass cut to the correct size
- Secure the glass with rubber seals and retaining clips

You need to consider the weight because glass is heavier than traditional materials. Also, the hinges and fittings are designed for the lighter weight of the original doors, which may affect durability.

So my question is: Are you actually looking for original Ikea solutions, or are you open to modifications? And how important are safety and stability for your use?

Direct glass is not available for Pax.

You can only buy mirrors or doors with a wood finish.

For glass, you need to be creative and find your own solution.

I agree with that. Based on my experience, custom-made glass panels for Pax doors are only partially practical because the original mounting points and hinges are not designed to support the weight and nature of glass.

An alternative you might consider is glass doors from third-party suppliers that are tailored to Pax dimensions. Some suppliers offer clear or frosted glass options, but these doors are usually not officially from Ikea and come with different quality standards and warranty terms.

Another tip: Ikea’s range occasionally includes cabinet styles similar to display cases with glass doors, which could be an alternative if your main goal is to have glass.
